July Meeting a Success!

A huge "Thank You!" to everyone that took time out on a beautiful day last week to meet and talk about the Cushman project! Over two dozen people showed up to show their interest! I will be scheduling these meetings every couple months as we formally organize. This is this time where word of mouth and reaching out to other community members and organizations is critical. I think this project has legs and can work but it is going to take A LOT of organization to overcome the inertia of TPU and the City.

Also, if anyone is interested in helping organize the 100 year celebration for next year, please let me know! With that date (Sept 2026) being so close to the time that TPU is supposed to vacate the building, I think it would be awesome to do an open house so we can all explore the building!

CURRENT STATUS:
Tacoma Public Utilities who currently owns the property is supposed to vacate the building in 2027. Meanwhile, the City of Tacoma has been trying to figure out how to transfer the property to itself and/or a non-profit housing developer. And the consultant the City hired is also wrapping up their report.

So, there are many moving pieces. But the pieces are moving glacially slow - especially these days. Which means we have time to organize, find community partners, and get a plan of action together! If we can get 50-100 voices together then we have a movement and a much stronger voice at city hall.

Please take a moment to invite other individuals and community groups and organizations you are involved with. Together we can make this happen!
