We’re proud to recognize City of Tacoma Councilmember Sarah Rumbaugh as AHC’s 2026 Affordable Housing Champion.

This award honors leaders who consistently and effectively advocate for housing that is safe, healthy, and affordable in Pierce County.

Councilmember Rumbaugh’s leadership this past year reflects exactly that.

She worked directly with affordable housing providers to advance policy changes that help ensure housing remains operationally stable and financially sustainable.

That work wasn’t easy.

It required navigating complex policy decisions and taking on political risk—while staying focused on what matters most: ensuring providers can continue serving our community’s most vulnerable residents.

This is what housing leadership looks like.

We’re grateful for her partnership, her willingness to engage deeply in the work, and her commitment to advancing solutions that strengthen housing stability in Tacoma.

🏆 Join us on May 6 at the Affordable Housing Week Reception & Membership Drive as we formally recognize Councilmember Rumbaugh.

Affordable housing doesn’t end at construction.

It continues with ensuring residents can access housing—and remain stably housed over time.

This includes:

Waitlists and eligibility
Lease-up processes
Ongoing operations and maintenance
Resident services and support

Housing stability requires long-term investment beyond the building itself.

During Affordable Housing Week, we’ll explore what it takes to make housing work—for the long term.

Once a project is funded, the real work begins.

Affordable housing development requires navigating approvals, regulations, timelines, and coordination across multiple partners.

From permitting to construction, every step requires precision, collaboration, and persistence.

These projects don’t happen quickly—but they are built to last.

During Affordable Housing Week, we’ll explore what it takes to move from plans to buildings.

Affordable housing starts long before construction.

It begins with identifying community need, building partnerships, and determining financial feasibility.

Then comes one of the most complex steps—financing.

Affordable housing relies on layered funding sources, public investment, and long-term planning to move forward.

During Affordable Housing Week, we’ll break down how projects move from early concept into real, viable developments.

Every affordable home starts with a plan—and a path to funding.
