Next week, I’m heading to Washington, D.C., to speak at the 2024 OJJDP National Conference, and I can’t wait to share the incredible work we’re doing with the MADE Men Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program at Green Hill School.

This program has been a game-changer—empowering young men in the juvenile justice system to mentor their peers, build leadership skills, and create lasting positive change. MADE Men has earned national recognition, and I’m honored to spotlight their stories at this conference.

Let’s keep the conversation going about how we can create opportunities for all youth to thrive.

Next week, I’ll be heading to Washington, D.C.

Rashad Norris is honored to return as emcee for the Black and Brown Men’s Summit—a vision I had the privilege to bring to life years ago at Highline College. This year’s theme, "Standing on Business," is all about empowering and motivating our young Black and Brown men to excel in their academics and embrace excellence in everything they do.

Register today: https://bandbsummit.highline.edu/

The summit’s purpose is powerful: to give these young men the tools to critique social structures that limit their success, to celebrate their achievements in the face of obstacles, and to reinforce their identity—socially, culturally, historically, and politically. This is an opportunity for each of them to see their true value and potential. Don’t miss the chance to be part of this movement. Register now and let’s build a future rooted in pride, excellence, and resilience!

📍 Location: Highline College

In today’s world, connecting with young people has never been more important—or more challenging. From the impact of COVID-19 lockdowns to the overwhelming presence of technology, the ways our youth communicate have shifted. How can we break through these barriers and empower them to find and use their voice? https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/relationships-rehabilitation-guide-reaching-young-people-norris-4l5qc

In my latest article, I share the five key techniques that have helped me form strong, meaningful connections with young people—built on trust, authenticity, and love. What has your experience been? Do you have others to add to this list? Please share 🙏

1️⃣ Love: Creating a sense of belonging

2️⃣ Consistency: Building trust through reliability

3️⃣ Authenticity: Sharing your story to connect

4️⃣ Charisma: Engaging with energy and enthusiasm

5️⃣ Action: Leading by example

Youth Equity Summit 2024
I had the honor of leading the "Destruction of the Master Plan" workshop with students from various middle and high schools in the Tacoma Public Schools at the Youth Equity Summit 2024 at the University of Puget Sound. Presenting alongside Brother Christian Paige was truly inspiring as we encouraged young minds to challenge the status quo and strive for equity.

Relevant Engagement at Juvenile Rehabilitation Centers
Working with WA Department of Children, Youth, and Families youth Juvenile Rehabilitation has been a transformative experience. Through the Men of Culture Academy (M.O.C.A.), Professor Michael Tuncap and I have served over 100 incarcerated youth and employees since 2021. Our trauma-informed approaches to rehabilitation, including arts therapy, creative writing, and meditation, offer hope and a path to a brighter future for these young individuals.

Mentorship at Auburn High School
One of my greatest joys is seeing my mentees shine. Josias Jean-Pierre has been steadily growing for the past 10 years under my guidance. Recently, I invited him to speak to my students at Auburn High School about goal setting and perseverance. Josias did an amazing job, and his success, including authoring five books and receiving the Presidential Award, is a testament to the power of mentorship.

As an Adjunct Professor at Centralia College, I teach Public Speaking 220 to young incarcerated men at Green Hill School in Centralia, WA. This is my third full year teaching this course, and each quarter I am consistently impressed by the presentations these young men deliver.

One student's powerful presentation on the value of time and self-investment particularly stood out, challenging us all to reflect on how we spend our time and strive for continuous self-improvement.
