My Purple Umbrella

My Purple Umbrella The mission of My Purple Umbrella is addressing harassment, intimidation, and bullying so all children learn to treat one another with dignity, compassion

I am the mother of a son who blurs the lines between boy and girl. Since the age of three Morgan blurred his parents idea of what's acceptable for a boy. In our home, a typical day is playing Transformers in a mermaid costume. Morgan flows between two gendered worlds. Gender expression and gender identity have multiple layers, Morgan taught us that. My husband and I have grown tremendously through

raising a child who experiences life without accepting boundaries. When Morgan reached school age, we reached out looking for support from like-minded families and peers for him to play within our community, we discovered there wasn't any. So, I started my own. If your child, grandchild, niece, nephew, step-child, foster child, neighbor, friend or student blurs gender lines as well, they are not alone. I had compassion & empathy for transgender and gender independent children but never truly understood until Morgan. I created this group in honor of children like my son. As a family, we are extremely fortunate to have a loving, supportive family, friends & community. From this safe place, we are able to advocate for those who can't, in the hope of spreading acceptance. Lisa Keating
