Hento Workshop 4/25/26

We are so grateful to everyone who came out, learned, and created with us. Spaces like this—where we can share culture and connect—mean so much.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

Si Yu’os Ma’åse’ to our workshop leader, Må'gas Guma' Joel Larimer for guiding us with so much care, and to everyone who helped prepare materials behind the scenes—we see all the work that went into this.

Thank you to Tacoma Public Library for hosting us, and Tacoma Creates for supporting this workshop through their grant.

🌴🌴Guma’Imahe 2026 Promotion & Induction Ceremony 🇲🇵🇬🇺

Still taking it all in. This weekend was something special.

We had a full house—families, friends, aunties, uncles, all showing up to support our Guma'. You could feel the pride in the room from start to finish. Every Cultural Practitioner who stepped forward earned that moment. Nothing was given. They worked for it.

To advance, they had to demonstrate what they’ve been learning—Chamorro singing, chanting, dialogue, dancing, and written language. Watching them carry that with confidence, knowing where it comes from and what it represents… that’s what makes all of this worth it.

For many of them, this wasn’t just about moving to the next level. It was about stepping into responsibility—continuing something bigger than themselves. That’s what we’re trying to build. Not just performers, but culture bearers.

Seeing the younger ones look up to those being promoted, and the older ones guiding them along the way—that’s the heart of Guma’Imahe. It’s not just teaching. It’s family. It’s community.

To everyone who came out and filled that space with love and support—Si Yu’os Ma’åse’. You made the night what it was.

We’re proud of each and everyone.

Special thanks and appreciation to Må'gas Guma' Joel Larimer! Without his tireless dedication, vision, endless love, work and efforts none of this is possible!!
