Local Life

Local Life Local Life is about growing community and neighborhoods, from the bottom-up. Musicians set the heartbeat by laying down improvised grooves.

We believe neighborhoods should be places to live, work, play and know your neighbors. Local Life hosts and sponsors a variety of events that serve as platforms for establishing neighborhood identity, community development and local learning. Downtown Block Party at Opera Alley

Most Recent: Second Annual Downtown Block Party
Downtown Block Party is organized by Local Life and Downtown Tacoma Neighbors, a partner project of Local Life. The vision behind the Downtown Block Party is giving attendees the chance to feel what it would be like to make their neighborhood a better place by working collaboratively and creatively. From the moment a party-goer steps into the Euro-styled Opera Alley, the atmosphere asks them to participate in the life and activity around them. Meanwhile participants can paint, craft, dance, eat and drink. After someone imbibes a cold brew, they can put on old shoes, step in paint and dance on linens or play wall ball. Or they may choose to have a bite to eat and play a game of chess first. Whatever the case, it will be hard for them to leave at the end of the night without a sense of inspiration to think outside-the-box about their own neighborhood. Coming Soon: Christmas Market partnering with Ice Skating Rink
TwoFiveTrees was created to help Downtown thrive by acting as a flag for bring a classic Christmas back Downtown. The idea is simple: sell Christmas Trees 24/7 for 3 1/2 weeks in Tollefson Plaza in December. Many, from Tacoma city council member, David Boe, to the Weekly Volcano, have called it the best use of the multimillion-dollar plaza, ever. TwoFiveTrees is coming into its third season and is expected to grow again this year as more and more people find out about it. Did we mention it's also probably the least expensive price on a good tree you'll find in driving distance? As others follow the flag that was planted in 2009, expect a 6,000-foot ice skating rink alongside TwoFiveTrees this year as well as a potential European Christmas Market to go shopping in! Local Life is also involved in putting on quality educational events on the importance of neighborhood and how to think collaboratively/creatively in making neighborhoods better places.
