NETT NETT-working for Tacoma visual artists This is for Visual artists: photographers, sculptures, and 2D artists. Thank you for your support! for you.

Even if you're not an artist, please invite anyone you know or meet who are visual artists - you can help this group grow! Our once-monthly gatherings offer a place to finally meet the artists in the area, and to work and show off your portfolios. We will usually be providing some structure (such as an opportunity to utilize live-models), but this will be a very professional place for any and all

motivated visual artists to stop by and network, further their skills and opportunities, or simply hang out. Our goal is to also have a book (and eventually a network online) of local artists and their skills to share. We will also plan some group outings to local gallery openings (it's more fun to go with people you know!) as well as field trips to other cities. It is our goal to move forward the careers of promising artists - we want to get the talent into galleries, and we will work hard with you to make it happen! We will be offering monthly challenges to our members - something to give incentive for practice and completing new pieces. For those who meet the challenge, rewards and publicity will be given. We will have events and outings in addition to our monthly meetings, as well as open studio dates twice a month. To begin with, our first meetings will be an open door for artists to come in and tell us what they want out of the group. Snacks (bring some, too, please!) and beverages (bring some if you can!) will be provided. As we grow, we will have some materials (easels, still-life objects, etc.) But for now, bring whatever you want to show off and work on! Drop in and help make this group exactly what Tacoma needs! Search for NETT on Facebook and "Like" it for updates and to see how we grow! (We are looking to keep this event professional. Artists 18 and under allowed to join on a case-by-case basis. Hello all,

The April meeting went wonderfully. It started out slowly, but about an hour into the meeting the table was absolutely full of artists who were having a great time meeting like-minded people! Thank you all for being a part of it.

NETT plans to hold an art challenge once a month - to be presented to the group during the following meeting - in order to keep our creative juices flowing in between gatherings.
This month's challenge (to be presented at the May meeting), if you choose to accept:
- 2 sketches
- 1 final drawing/painting/etc. (better larger than small)
The assignment is to - in either a book store or library - go to your favorite genre (fantasy, history, etc.) and pull out a random book (that you've never read) and illustrate the 137th page. Do not read any more of the book so that the illustration will remain as out of content as possible. Instead of bringing in an artist's statement for your pieces, bring in a photocopy or transcribed copy of the page which you drew (and the name of the book). Remember, you don't have to complete the challenge, but those who do will receive publicity on our page and a firm hand-shake from our barista.

Our next meeting will be held on Friday evening, May 11th, and Saturday morning, May 12th. More information will come. Be sure to bring a portfolio or something like it to show off to the group. We'd love to see your work! Feel free to bring anything you would like to work on, or bring as many pieces as you want to be critiqued. Lydia brought in her painting from the last challenge with questions about content and composition and she got some amazing feedback that she put to good use. Once you have a group critique you will never be able to finish a piece without it, I promise.
