Tacoma Youth For Christ

Tacoma Youth For Christ A presence. ๐Ÿ‘‡ Learn how to partner with us We believe transformation doesnโ€™t happen through quick fixes or programs. It happens through consistent presence.

Transforming lives of underserved youth in Pierce County through Christ-centered relationships ๐Ÿคโœ๏ธ We show up week by week, until hope takes root. ๐ŸŒฑ
Not a program. Tacoma Youth for Christ builds Christ-centered, relational mentoring relationships with underserved youth across Pierce County. Week by week, trusted adults show up in schools, juvenile facilities, and community spaces to walk alongside

young people, listen to their stories, and point them toward hope. We partner with churches, volunteers, and community leaders to create a safety net of care, meeting youth where they are and staying with them for the long game. Not a program. A presence. Week by week. Until hope takes root. ๐ŸŒฑ

You're stuck in line. You finally reach the counter. You pay. And if you added it all up over a week, the number might surprise you.

$35 a week. On coffee. โ˜•

It's worth asking: is there a better way to invest that?
There is.

Invest it in Tacoma YFC, and here's where it actually goes.

It shows up on campus at Gates, where a student finds the confidence to turn their work in for the first time.

It shows up on campuses across Pierce County, week after week, until students know we care because we keep showing up.

It shows up the day a young person realizes their life has a purpose.

It shows up as hope a kid couldn't find last year, and the strength to keep going.

We don't make that happen. Jesus does, slowly, through people who keep showing up in the places most folks overlook.

That's real impact. The steady, long-game kind that only continues when partners help carry it.

This spring we're inviting 20 new monthly partners to Carry the Work.

A gift the size of your weekly coffee run keeps a caring, consistent adult in a young person's corner long enough for real change to take root. ๐Ÿ™

Hope doesn't arrive. It's carried.

They didn't wait until life got easier.

They showed up to class even with a baby.
They did the hard thing while they were already going through a hard thing.
And then they crossed the stage.

This is what Tacoma YFC's Teen Parent Support program gets to walk alongside
young moms in Pierce County who are building a future for themselves and
their children at the same time.

Two futures. One act of courage at a time. ๐Ÿ’›

We show up because Christ showed up first.
And we'll keep showing up until every young parent
in Pierce County knows they don't have to do this alone.

They crossed the stage.

These students came to Gates High School for an opportunity most people don't get twice. A chance to finish. A chance to graduate. A chance to build on something they thought might be gone.

They didn't waste it.

They persevered through the hard days. They showed up when it would have been easier not to. And now they have something nobody can take away from them.

Tacoma YFC has been in the rooms with students like these on alternative school campuses across Pierce County, showing up consistently, week after week. Not because we're impressive. Because Christ's love compels us to stay in the places most people walk past.

We show up because He showed up first. And we'll keep showing up until every young person in Pierce County knows they are seen, known, and worth staying for.

Congratulations to the graduates of Gates High School. This moment is yours. ๐ŸŽ“

Work is happening inside.

We canโ€™t bring a camera inside. We canโ€™t record audio. But sometimes a young person finds a way to show us anyway.

This was written on a piece of cardboard by a teen at a juvenile detention facility in Pierce County.

โ€œOne thing I learned from Tacoma YFC is to always keep your faith through the trials you face, because no matter what situation youโ€™re in, you can always make the best of it.โ€

Thatโ€™s Hope.

Not optimism. Not wishful thinking. The deep, settled belief that God is still working, even here. Even now. Even in this.

โ€œAnd we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.โ€
Romans 8:28 ๐Ÿ’›

This is why we show up. Week after week. In the places most people walk past.

"I finished what I started."

Four words. But for a young person navigating an alternative school in Pierce County, those four words are everything.

These students didn't just show up. They stayed. They worked. They finished.

"I'm proud of passing all my classes last learning cycle."
"I'm proud of growing as a person and finding self-love."
"Being consistent and working hard. Achieving my goals."
"I took my classes seriously this year."

This is what the long game looks like when it pays off. ๐Ÿ’›

Tacoma YFC walks alongside students like these โ€” not just until things get better, but through the whole journey. From the first step to the last.

We're building a team of 20 monthly partners by June 30 to keep this presence alive across Pierce County. Two people have already said yes. 18 spots left.

Every encounter counts.

Every moment we spend on a school campus with a young person who needed someone to show up that day.

Every conversation with a teen parent navigating something no one should navigate alone.

Every one-on-one mentoring session where nothing dramatic happens, just two people, a table, and someone who stayed.

None of it is wasted. All of it is building something.

That's what Tacoma YFC has believed for over 80 years in Pierce County. The work is slow. It doesn't always look like progress from the outside. But we serve a God who sees every encounter, every late night phone call, and He is working.

"Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."
1 Corinthians 15:58

This summer, our goal is 20 new monthly partners by June 30 to sustain the presence we already have on the ground across On-Campus Programming, Teen Parent Support, and Youth Mentoring.

Not a one-time gift. A steady, faithful commitment to the work Jesus is already doing here.

Sometimes the biggest advocates for young people arenโ€™t adults.

Theyโ€™re other young people.

These letters on the wall were written by students at Eatonville High School to students at Foss High School in the wake of everything thatโ€™s happened over the last few weeks. Dozens of handwritten notes. Taped up. Sent with care.

โ€œYou are not alone.โ€
โ€œYour community is here for youโ€

One of our student leaders on campus heard what was happening and quietly started leading the charge to make sure her fellow students felt seen and supported. She didnโ€™t wait for permission. She just cared. Deeply. And she acted on it.

This is what Tacoma YFC gets to witness every day in Pierce County.

Young people who carry hope for each other before anyone asks them to. Young people who remind us that the mission isnโ€™t just something we bring to them. Itโ€™s something theyโ€™re already living.

How we show up for them matters.
How we lift them up matters.
How we consistently stay matters.

Youth really do care for each other. And thatโ€™s something powerful to witness. ๐Ÿ™

"I'm proud of the maturity Tacoma YFC has helped me gain."

"I'm proud of the friends I made. I'm proud of forming new connections."

"Tacoma YFC helped me develop the confidence to get into a college I never thought I could get into."

This celebration didn't happen overnight.

It happened after years of showing up. Late night phone calls. Hard conversations. Showing up again after the ones that didn't go well. Building the kind of trust that doesn't come from a program, it comes from a person who refuses to leave.

That's what Tacoma YFC does. ๐–๐ž ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐ญ ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฌ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฏ๐ž๐ฌ ๐ข๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ง๐ž๐ฑ๐ญ ๐ ๐ž๐ง๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง in Pierce County and we stay. Not until it gets hard. Through it.

These students are stepping out of our Transformation Journey and this celebration is the proof of what happens when someone stays long enough to see it.

Hope doesn't arrive. It's carried.

Some things take more than one person to carry.

A couch. A bed frame. A generation of young people who need a consistent adult in their corner, week after week, in the places most people walk past.

Tacoma YFC has been showing up in Pierce County for over 80 years. On school campuses. In teen parent programs. Alongside young people who need someone to stay. The work is slow. It doesn't always look like progress from the outside.

But the presence is faithful, and faithfulness is what changes things over time.
This Spring, we're asking you to do something with us.

Carry the Work!

Not because it's a nice round number. Because it takes partners to sustain the presence we already have on the ground.

It doesn't have to be a lot. It has to be steady. ๐Ÿ™
