πŸ“£ Important Membership Renewal Update

Scouting America has announced that the current membership lapse period will be phased out and will end on **December 31, 2026**.

πŸ”Ή What Is Changing?

The lapse period has allowed members a short grace period after their renewal date before their membership becomes inactive. As Scouting America moves toward a simpler and more consistent renewal system, this lapse period will gradually be reduced and then eliminated.

πŸ“… Key Dates

βœ… Members with an **October 2026** renewal date will be the last to receive the full **two-month lapse period**.

βœ… Members with a **November 2026** renewal date will receive a **one-month lapse period**.

βœ… Members with a **December 2026** renewal date will receive **no lapse period**.

Beginning in September 2026, new and renewing units will use the standard charter fee plus pro rata fees through February 2028.

πŸ“… Beginning January 1, 2027, members must be current in their registration to maintain active status.

Unit leaders, committee members, and families should begin planning ahead to ensure memberships are renewed on time and there is no interruption in participation, advancement, or registration status.

More information will be shared as Scouting America continues implementing its simplified membership and renewal processes.

America turns 250 in 2026. How will your Scout unit leave its mark?

As part of the nationwide America250 celebration, Scouting America is challenging every unit to complete 250 hours of community service during 2026. From food drives and conservation projects to community cleanups, helping veterans, supporting local nonprofits, and countless other acts of service, every hour counts.

This is more than a service challenge. It is an opportunity for Scouts to honor our nation's past by building a stronger future through leadership, citizenship, and service to others. Through a partnership between Scouting America and America250, Scouts across the country are helping lead one of the largest volunteer efforts in American history.

Challenge your unit to reach 250 service hours this year. Whether you serve your community one project at a time or through a major service initiative, your efforts can become part of a historic national celebration.

What does it mean to be an Eagle Scout?

A new national study conducted in partnership with The Harris Poll found that Eagle Scouts continue to stand out in leadership, service, character, and community involvement long after earning Scouting's highest rank. Eagle Scouts reported stronger connections to their values, greater civic engagement, and a lasting commitment to serving others.

The Eagle Scout rank is more than a badge. It represents years of dedication, leadership, perseverance, and a commitment to making a positive difference in the world.

Whether they become business leaders, military officers, educators, community volunteers, or devoted family members, Eagle Scouts carry the lessons of Scouting with them for a lifetime.

Congratulations to all Eagle Scouts who continue to lead through service and inspire future generations of Scouts.
