Here is a great opportunity to encourage Indigenous youth between the ages of 14 and 17 who have an interest in law enforcement, firefighting, emergency medical services (EMS), the legal profession (judges, attorneys, and prosecutors), corrections, probation, or victim services to visit our website at www.niyja.com and apply to attend the National Indian Youth Justice Academy (NIYJA).
The Academy is a two-week residential program that will be held in San Bernardino, California, from July 26 through August 8, 2026. Information about the Academy, along with a nine-minute video explaining the program, is available on our website.
The mission of the Academy is to create awareness of and interest in careers in public safety and justice services among Indigenous youth while reinforcing the importance of cultural identity, leadership, community service, and the protection of Tribal sovereignty.
The Academy is offered at no cost to participating students. We do not receive federal funding and rely entirely on sponsorships and donations from Tribal Nations, organizations, businesses, and individuals who believe in investing in the future of Indigenous youth. If you are aware of potential donors or sponsors, we would greatly appreciate your assistance in making them aware of this important program, as we are still raising funds for this year's Academy.
The deadline for student applications is July 5, 2026.
