Puget Sound Pet Food Bank

Puget Sound Pet Food Bank Would you give up a meal to feed your pet? You don't have to! To our knowledge, we are the only strictly-pet-food bank in the area. in Tacoma.

Puget Sound Food Bank opened in January of 2013 as CSL-Tacoma Pet Food Bank, with the goal of assisting homeless and low income pet owners in the greater Tacoma and South King County area who need help taking care of their pets. We have grown rapidly from a “neighborhood pet food bank” and are now serving clients from Bonney Lake to Lakewood, Graham, Spanaway and neighboring communities. We are se

rving an average of 50-55 families each Saturday, distributing approximately 2,500 pounds of dog and cat kibble, and 650 cans of canned food each month. We operate entirely on donations and are staffed by a small group of dedicated volunteers, with no salaried staff. In 2015, we reorganized as a separate non-profit 501(c)3 organization under the name Puget Sound Pet Food Bank, and moved to a larger location on Sixth Ave. We also opened an additional location in Spanaway

We are still getting questions about our status. We are so so sorry but the Pet Food Bank is completely shut down until further notice. Service in both locations, Spanaway and Tacoma, is suspended indefinitely.

REMINDER:
The Puget Sound Pet Food Bank is now closed. Services in Spanaway and Tacoma are suspended indefinitely.

Pet owners may get help from the Tacoma Humane Society. Their pet food bank is open every Wednesday and Saturday afternoon from 12 to 4 pm.

We are still searching for a new place and funding so that we may reopen and resume operations. Please check our page for updates.

******TEMPORARY CLOSURE******

It is with great regret that we announce the Puget Sound Pet Food Bank will be temporarily closing. Our last day of service will be in Tacoma on Monday, July 27, 2026.

Today, the Pet Food Bank serves over 400 families and 1,100 pets monthly through our walk-in and outreach programs. In addition, we help two people food banks and two rescues. And we continue to receive new requests for assistance daily.

Monetary and in-kind donations simply are not sufficient to feed all the pet families requesting help and cover our operating costs. And we need a new home that can accommodate clients from both Spanaway and Tacoma, provide adequate on-site storage for food and pet supplies, and allow our veterinary partners to continue to operate their free wellness and spay/neuter clinics.

We are NOT permanently closing the pet food bank. We understand the impact and hardship this creates for families needing help and are actively looking for a new home and exploring funding options, including holding a fundraiser in late September.

How can you help? Donate through our website or participate in our online fundraiser. Volunteer your time or talents once we reopen.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding and continued support.

🚨🆘 SOS! WE NEED WET FOOD! 🆘🚨

We've recently had several medically complex cats come into our care, and between their veterinary needs and caring for the 190 cats and kittens currently in our foster homes, our resources have been stretched in every direction. After a huge supply pickup over the weekend, our wet food shelves are now nearly empty.

Wet food is one of our biggest ongoing expenses, and we go through it incredibly fast. Many of our medical cats rely on it to stay hydrated, maintain their weight, or take medications. Our kittens need it to grow big and strong, and our adult cats depend on it as part of their daily diet. Wet food is an extremely important part of every cats diet.

To put it into perspective, if every cat at OCR received just one can of wet food each day (and many require more than that), we would go through 1,330 cans every single week!

If you're able to help by donating even one case of wet food, it would make a tremendous difference.

💙 Our highest priority needs are:

🐾 Applaws Kitten

If donating isn't possible, sharing this post is another way to help us reach people who may be able to. Every can makes a difference, and we're so grateful for this amazing community that continues to help us care for cats who need us most. ❤️🐾

ANNOUNCEMENT: Effective immediately, PSPFB will temporarily not accept any new clients. We are not closing! We will continue to serve currently enrolled customers and hope to be open again soon for new clients and walk-ins. We regret any hardship this may cause pet owners in need; we are doing the best we can to meet the overwhelming number of requests and increasing costs of our operations and purchases!
