We just wrapped up hosting the Tenant Union Federation's regional "TUF On Tour" training, where over 70 tenant union leaders from around the Western US joined us for a weekend of intensive training.

Our very own Devin Rydel Kelly hosted and welcomed the room, and our amazing leaders
Jen C, Kenny L, Taylor B, Ben E, Kiss'Shonna C and Bearett H each took on major speaking roles and led from the front. We had other members volunteer in various ways, and 12 of us attend over the weekend.

Attendees from everywhere were so impressed with what we've been building here in Tacoma. They know we're serious about building supermajority, strike ready tenant unions!

And speaking of "supermajority" and "strike ready," we'll have major updates for you very soon.

We're thrilled to welcome the Tenant Union Federation and tenant leaders from around the Western US this weekend for an in-person TUF on Tour training. These gatherings are the capstone to three months of TUF's powerful "Union School." 10 Tacoma Tenants leaders will join ~70 folks for a weekend of learning and practice.

We're pumped to host the Tenant Union Federation's "TUF On Tour" regional training this weekend, then mob over to Tacoma for All's Safe Homes For All Initiative fundraiser. We got some really big stuff coming up this week!

Tomorrow, our own Devin Rydel Kelly is presenting for UW Tacoma's Labor Solidarity Project seminar, alongside Ty Moore, on building tenant power in Tacoma and beyond.

The Labor Solidarity Project is a long-running series of free, online fall quarter seminars, often featuring some of the biggest heavy hitters labor movement organizers and academics.

We'll speak about Tacoma for All's work to decommodify housing, Tacoma Tenants building power where people live, and much more. Join us online if you can!

Y'all! There's even more great coverage of the Wright Park Tenant Union launch, this time as today's top The News Tribune headline.

The article features some great quotes by Wright Park tenants, our lead organizer, and local academics... and some not so great ones from the Rental Housing Association.

One of our favorites is from tenant leader Jamie Lucero, who says... “Our tenancy is primarily older folks, disabled folks, single parents, young working adults... All of us are in a position where we can’t necessarily go elsewhere, and so we’re asking the new incoming management to treat us with respect and to work with us."

We just emailed building buyer Blackrock Communities NW with a request to meet and negotiate before 10/15. We're expecting them to take our leaders and our demands seriously.

We were honored to have both speak at our Wright Park Tenant Union launch, and to see them elevating this important campaign and story. Now we just need Blackrock Communities NW CEO Daniel G. Casey to negotiate with the supermajority tenant union.

Hillcrest Apartments resident and "pesky Tacoma lifer" Bill's powerful speech from last Saturday's Wright Park Tenant Union launch. Bill has lived there over 14 years and has so much history to share. He noted that the real value of the three Wright Park properties going through a sale is the tenants themselves. Bill joins over 70% of residents in demanding that buyer Daniel G. Casey of Blackrock Communities NW negotiate with their supermajority tenant union.

WPTU members' buildings are being sold for the first time in 50 years, and residents are demanding that buyer Daniel Casey of Blackrock Communities NW freeze rent for a year, not displace any longtime tenants, and negotate with their supermajority tenant union.

Wright Park Tenant Union leader Jen shared some of the many community building moments she has shared with neighbors in her 14 years living at the Hillcrest Apartments.

Jen is one of many esidents that have been there over 10 years, with some over 20, and at least one over 30. Now their beloved buildings are going through a sale.

The buyer, Daniel G. Casey of Blackrock Communities NW, has a history of buying "C- properties in B+ neighborhoods," then using eviction, renovation and increased rent to drive profit.

Jen is joining dozens of her neighbors in saying their community isn't a commodity. These are their homes and they're here to stay.
