What does it mean to build something that becomes part of the culture of your city?

On the latest episode of The Chamber Pod, we sit down with Umi Wagoner, co-creator of eTc Tacoma and founder of Umi’s Corner, to talk creativity, entrepreneurship, collaboration, and what it means to create something that resonates with the community.

Umi shares his approach to bringing ideas to life—and some great advice for anyone thinking about starting something of their own:

“You start with doing it, not necessarily discussing it.”

🎙️ Tune in to The Chamber Pod to hear more from Umi about eTc Tacoma, his creative process, his love of Tacoma, and his vision for the next generation of creatives in the 253.

We’re proud to celebrate our Chamber member, Gesa Credit Union, and their continued commitment to supporting students and schools across Washington! 🎓💙

Today, Gesa presented more than $100,000 to nine Western Washington school districts through its Affinity Debit Card program—including our member Tacoma Public Schools. This year marks the program’s largest annual giveback yet, with more than $500,000 going to 35 partner schools statewide.

We’re especially excited to see Tacoma Public Schools recognized as part of this incredible effort to invest in our local students and community. Thank you to Gesa Credit Union for turning everyday banking into meaningful support for our schools! 👏

What’s in the works at Spaceworks Tacoma? 🎨✨

Our very own Jennifer English, Program Director of Spaceworks, recently joined CityLine to share more about the work happening across Tacoma’s creative community and what’s ahead for Spaceworks.

As a program of the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber, Spaceworks connects creatives to opportunity; supporting artists, creative entrepreneurs, and small businesses while helping transform underused spaces into places for creativity, connection, and community.

From the Spaceworks Incubator and business support to public art, murals, creative placemaking, and unique community events, Spaceworks is helping Tacoma’s creative ideas come to life.

And speaking of unique events… 🚀✨ Cosmic Bingo is bringing a whole new kind of energy to Tacoma! This 21+ experience combines music trivia, bingo, a live DJ, themed rounds, and even air guitar and lip-sync competitions. Think rave meets trivia meets bingo, with plenty of neon.

Some businesses don’t just serve a community, they help build one.

I stopped by Odd Otter Brewing to see firsthand how they’re creating a space where people can gather, connect, and feel like they belong. 🍻🍻🍻

That same vision came through in our latest Chamber Podcast with Gary Wescott, where we talked about revitalizing downtown Tacoma, supporting local businesses, and why community is at the heart of everything they do.

Every time you choose to shop local, grab a drink at a neighborhood brewery, or support a Tacoma-Pierce County business, you’re investing in the people and places that make our region thrive.

Sometimes the best businesses aren’t built around beer, they’re built around people. 🍻

When Gary Wescott took over Odd Otter Brewing, his vision went far beyond reopening a brewery. He wanted to create a place where families gather, strangers become friends, local vendors thrive, books are shared, and Tacoma feels just a little more connected.

Community doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because leaders choose to build it.
