Western Cascade Fruit Society- Tahoma Chapter August 2026 Meeting

Our August 6, 2026 Meeting Will Be At Puyallup United Methodist Church- Unity Garden

”Greetings, Sustainability Strawberries, & Restoration Raspberries”

For August, we will be revisiting Robert Sweet’s sustainable garden plot at Puyallup United Methodist Church, now named Unity Garden. This is the chance to ask all the questions you didn’t get answers to last year.

In this living laboratory, we’ll be discussing cover crops, interplanting, soil conditioning, infrastructure (paths, mounds, irrigation) and insects, both beneficial and pests). There are plans for fruit and native plantings in the future.

Who: Fruit Society Members, Master Gardeners (this counts as CE time), PUMC church folks and all friends.

What: Unity Garden, test space for sustainability techniques in growing food.

Where: Puyallup United Methodist Church, 1919 West Pioneer Ave, Puyallup, 98371

When: Thursday, August 6th, 7:00 PM, but we'll be there by 6:00, so come earlier to chat with others and enjoy any treats.

Why: To learn sustainability techniques you can use in your own garden and teach to others.

As always, bring extra fruit from your harvest, treats if you have time to make or buy them, seeds and starts to share.

Many Thanks,

Helen J. Wilson-

Western Cascade Fruit Society- Tahoma Chapter June 4, 2026 Meeting

SUBJECT: Nuts about Nuts!

When: June 4th Doors open at 6:30 PM. Meeting begins at 7:00 PM
Where: Collins Grange #893, 3404 120th St E, Tacoma, WA 98446

Dear Nut Lovers-

For our June 4th meeting, we will be exploring the ins and outs of growing nuts in the Pacific NW. We all know English Walnuts and Filberts grow here. But, did you know you can grow ALMONDS? Also, The Tschidas have two trees that bear the edible variety of chestnut. The subject of Black Walnuts, Oaks and acorns may also come up.

Bring your personal experiences with growing nuts if you've tried them. In general, bring seeds, seedlings and fruit to share. Potluck dishes are welcome, especially ones with nuts!

Very Best Regards Always,

Helen J. Wilson- Western Cascade Fruit Society Tahoma Chapter President
