Today COA- Division II - remembered one of their esteemed colleagues. Many retired and current members of the judiciary attended, including Judge Bryan, Justice Johnson, Justice Gordon McCloud and others.
He was remembered for his love of working with bright law clerks, for his steady humor, and wit, and that he was also a darn fine trial lawyer. Here is an example from a story he wrote years ago & reminds us that at some point, we all chased the law for one reason or another: “I realized that all I knew about lawyers was that they tried cases – exciting cases about beautiful women and big money and vice versa. A vision of my future was lining itself in my mind; a glamorous, sharp-witted Della Street by my side; a Paul Drake sauntering into the courtroom after a quick flight to Las Vegas, trailing a gaggle of surprise witnesses; and I, with a rapier tongue, carving the opposing witnesses into bite-sized pieces before a hopelessly befuddled adversary. All I needed was a few more weeks of training….”
