A sincere thank you to all who have attended and helped to organize The Syracuse Southside Walking Tour.
With our 3 part series we were able to learn nee facts we may have overlooked for years, appreciated the beautiful architecture that remains, and witness the transformation of the area due to blight.
As we continue to plan our programming we aim to have more walking tours that aid in educating residents and students and making beautiful connections with the residents for years to come.

This Saturday’s Part 2 of The Syracuse Southside Walking Tour was a 🔥 one.
Thank you to everyone who joined us. This tour’s focus highlighted the challenges the Southside of Syracuse has faced. What was once a neighborhood for wealthy business class white homeowners turned into a neighborhood that suffered years of neglect, due to flight, redlining, blockbusting, and steering. Today, its rebirth can be attributed to a multitude of community partners, investors, and brave homeowners taking the leap to create healthy, affordable, and quality homes. Lot’s of development and still lots of historic charm and preservation linger.

Special thanks to:

Dr. Sam Gruber: Our incredible architectural historian who mapped out this route and shared his deep knowledge of the Southside.

The Damianis .mcallister.house for sharing their story and their renovation.

The Greater Syracuse Landbank : For sponsoring our headsets
Next and last tour—May 24th (time pending)
If you haven’t grabbed your tickets yet, head over to www.pacny.net to secure your spot. Meeting details will be sent out prior to the tour.
Thank you for supporting the Preservation Association of Central New York and helping us celebrate the stories of our city. See you on the 24th!

There is a soul to the Southside that you can’t find anywhere else in the region and this Spring, PACNY is proud to announce we are opening the doors to the history, architecture, development, and stories of Syracuse’s Southside with a brand-new 3-part walking tour series.
Whether you are a lifelong Syracuse resident or visiting from the Greater Central New York region, you won’t want to miss this rare opportunity to explore the vibrant heritage of one of our city’s most storied neighborhoods.
It’s been over two decades since a tour of this scale has focused on these streets, and it’s time to give this community the spotlight it deserves.
We are so proud to be partnering with local staples to make this happen—because the Southside’s heritage belongs to everyone.

Part 1: Sunday, May 3rd / The South Salina Historic District
