Another story from the trenches:

Some woman called. She’s at work and there’s a scared kitten outside, someone kicked him and his nose is bleeding. ‘Who can help?’
We explain there’s no Cat 911, and all the cat organizations are staffed by volunteers so it takes a bit of time for any kind of response, and the shelters, well -she’d have to bring the cat to them.
We encourage her with actions she can do right now to keep the cat safe. ‘Oh no honey, I’m at work!’ she says. Ma’am we are all volunteers, we are also at work!! At our jobs, that pay our bills.
It’s astonishing how many people think ‘helping’ is just calling someone else to come solve the problem. They’re not willing to go a step beyond that, but are very willing to blame organizations for our ‘lack of compassion’. Ma’am, compassion is abundant but there’s no $$$, space, time or free labor. Helping means stepping up, and not just making a phone call.
(No further info on kitten available, she hung up on us).

For adoption: Smokey, nicknamed Toto. Neutered male, has all shots, indoor only. Likes being petted, brushed, playtime, and generally getting attention. Will sleep on your bed. Scared of other cats as he’s had a bad experience. Does not like travel.
Has allergies (fish/shellfish, fleas) so you must read labels and avoid that in his food and provide flea treatments in the summer. Has diabetes; well-managed with a shot twice daily. (Cost is about $20 per month). Diabetes can subside with weight loss, and he’s working on it. To adopt, call or text his foster parent at 315-395-9262. Adoption fee and references required.

Shared from a sister organization. If interested in adopting, click on the original post and contact Buffalo Bend.

Update: The SPCA is going to help and take them in if he can catch them.

Trying to help this guy in Syracuse who gets cats and kittens show up at his house every year from college students from OCC . So many in need out there. The main thing is to get them fixed, vetted and find homes. We have 4 kittens and a mother the Cat Coalition is helping us with at our farm currently and hopefully can help these also. If there's anyone interested in a kitten or giving a mother a home please contact us and we can coordinate.❤

Leave your garage door open a crack, so animals can take shelter. Put some cardboard boxes inside for a place to hide.
