This Labor Day, we’re celebrating working people and fighting for what we are owed: Money. Power. Respect.

As our members at colleges and school districts are welcoming students back to campus, we are also welcoming new staff to their new job. Part of that work is teaching them about our union. What we do, why we do it, and how it changes the balance of power between bosses and workers. Because we know our students do better when we have a voice at work. Here are some pictures from a recent training we held for member leaders on how to best welcome new workers and teach them about our union.

1199SEIU and SEIU Local 200United members united together on Saturday to kickoff their contract campaign! Union members at Strong Memorial Hospital & University of Rochester Campus are fighting to protect their hard-earned benefits and improve wages to help offset the affordability crisis, all while grad workers are still fighting for a union.

✅Members also registered for the 1199SEIU Child Care Fund, met with local providers about camps, scholarships, and got information from Healthcare Education Project on the impact of Medicaid cuts on our community. Everyone had a great time! Thanks to Big Daddy BBQ for providing lunch Roc Hard Corvette Club for bringing ice cream!

Syracuse University clerical and technical staff worked hard to make things run smoothly as we welcomed students back to campus. We’re also negotiating our first union contract. Despite many current challenges in higher ed, we’re demanding a raise that reflects the vital role we play on campus. We’re grateful for the strength and support we have together in union with 4,000 SU workers! 💜

Graduate workers stood with our members, our President Scott Phillipson, and 1199 SEIU Upstate NY to demand organizing rights at the opening day of negotiations for two thousand SEIU 200United and 1199SEIU members at the University of Rochester. ✊💜
