Trump has launched an attack against the sovereign nation of Venezuela and abducted its leader. This attack is illegal in US and international law.
Demonstrate your dissent today! This is a rapidly organized rally.

6pm, today (Sat 1/3)
Downtown Syracuse at Perseverance Park, which is at the corner of S. Salina St. and Washington St.

The attack was conducted under false pretenses that the Venezuelan government is a major drug trafficker to the US. These have been disproven by independent investigations by the UN and EU. This act of war also did not have Congressional approval.
Regardless of what you think of Maduro, this rogue attack by the US military puts millions of lives at risk. Trump has openly said that the US will run Venezuela and that US oil companies will manage Venezuela’s oil. This theft is the real reason for the attack.
Trump has scapegoated Latin Americans over and over. He has fomented racist stereotypes to justify his persecution of so many people, whether immigrants in the US or peoples abroad. He has spread lie after lie about Latin Americans and tried to divide us.
Trump has also indicated a desire to interfere in more Latin American countries. This must stop here.
The US public must rally in dissent of the aggression by the Trump administration. We must be in solidarity with Venezuelans and other Latin Americans who are now terrified by US military aggression.
Come out. Make a sign. Raise your voice. Join with others in dissenting from this act of war. Dress warmly. Hats, gloves, and scarfs recommended. Stay hydrated.

🚨 NO WAR ON VENEZUELA! NO TO WARS! NO TO BOMBS!

Join us in condemning the illegal military actions on Venezuela and demand an immediate release of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cicilia Flores.

For months the Trump authoritarian regime has stoked anti-immigrant fear to justify intense militarization in our streets and the kidnapping our neighbors. The same fear is being used to manufacture wars that will only line the pockets of corporations and the political elite.

There can be billions for war, for more than 2 years of genocide in Gaza, and for military occupations around the world while millions lose healthcare, while millions go hungry, and while millions suffer. It’s time to fund life, not death.

We are drawing a line as the threat of war and militarism expands. We will sacrifice no one and we will fight for everyone.

You can endorse this letter, email your congress members, and hit the streets. Links in bio. 🔗

Two Fridays ago on a gorgeous fall evening, JVP Syracuse gathered community members for a radical celebration of Sukkot — an ancient Jewish holiday honoring the cycles of nature and the journey to freedom. ‘Radical’ means returning to our roots - Jewish communities have celebrated Sukkot in diaspora for thousands of years. Our celebration was Judiasm beyond Zionism in practice, honoring the land we live on and recommitting ourselves to mutual liberation in Palestine.

Our members began by building the Sukkah—a temporary structure made of natural materials and foraged brush—in the days leading up to the festival. In our tradition, the structure has one wall open to the world - a symbol of radical hospitality and welcoming in a time of walls and borders. The Sukkah was hung with information about the realities of life in Gaza today, where most are forced to live in temporary structures after 92% of residences have been damaged or destroyed by Israeli airstrikes using American-made bombs.

As the evening fell, we shared each of the customs and rituals of Sukkot — each paired with a concrete action that participants took to support justice in Palestine and on Turtle Island.

Every day, Israel commits new massacres in Gaza, more Palestinians die from starvation or targeted airstrikes, journalists are targeted and murdered for reporting on Israel’s genocide, and yet the US continues to send weapons to Israel.

Every single elected official in the House of Representatives has an opportunity to take action NOW and stop sending weapons to Israel.

House Resolution 3565, the Block the Bombs Act, already has 32 members of Congress who’ve signed on to sponsor the bill. This bill would enforce US law and restrict Trump from sending more weapons to Israel as it commits a genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

We need NY-22 constituents to CALL & EMAIL Congressman Mannion right now and urge him to sign on to H.R. 3565 and let him know that his constituents want to STOP sending weapons to this rogue state which consistently breaks international and US Leahy Law.

Call Mannion’s office now and then use the email template (link in bio) to email his office with a pre-written script. Once you’re done, share this post with friends and family and encourage them to do the same. We have the people power. Let’s push our elected officials to listen to us, their constituents, not special interest groups or DC lobbyists!

We hope you’ll join us in Cazenovia on Sunday, August 10th at 4:30pm for a free, public screening of ‘The Encampments’ documentary at Pewter Spoon Cafe, located at 87 Albany St.

‘The Encampments’ takes a closer look at America’s student movement and those at Columbia University who set up the Gaza Solidarity Encampment. We’ll hear about the students’ experiences — facing repression, threats, and even federal detention for calling for an end to the university’s ties to US and Israeli weapons manufacturers amid an ongoing genocide in Gaza. We will hold a brief discussion after the film to help ground us in the current political moment and consider ways to move us toward further political action on the local and national level.

Spots are limited and registration is required! Register at the link in our bio, or visit to tinyurl.com/cazfilm48

Our friend and comrade in the struggle for Palestinian liberation was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary. Here is JVP Syracuse’s statement in recognition of this esteemed award.

As neighbors, friends, colleagues, and supporters of Syracuse-based Palestinian poet Mosab Abu Toha, JVP Syracuse commends Mosab on his recent award of the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for Commentary.

Mosab Abu Toha was awarded the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for Commentary honoring four of his essays published in The New Yorker. The titles of the essays reveal the dilemma of what could have been a joyous moment of celebration: “Requiem for a Refugee Camp,” “The Gaza We Leave Behind,” “The Pain of Travelling While Palestinian,” and “My Family’s Daily Struggle to Find Food in Gaza.”

Mosab’s work adeptly weaves the poetry of life with the terror of living as a Palestinian husband and young father under Israeli apartheid and military occupation. Any celebration must be held dually with the horrors of genocide: the murder of 31 of his family members in a single Israeli airstrike and dozens more in subsequent attacks, his own abduction and torture by Israeli forces, more than 2 million people starving under siege and bombardment by the state of Israel with US bombs, and tens of thousands of people still under the rubble of destroyed homes, schools, and hospitals in Gaza. It also comes with the painful acknowledgement that the first English-language libraries Mosab worked so hard to open in Gaza have been reduced to rubble by Israeli airstrikes, and that Palestinians in Gaza have been forced to burn treasured book collections to make fires for their survival.

Mosab Abu Toha has received one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a writer, and his writing documents the suffering and genocide of his own people. The power to create in response to pain and oppression requires not only artful skill, as shown in Mosab’s writing, but courage and commitment to liberation in the face of immediate and intergenerational trauma.

Last Saturday, ICE abducted Columbia University student organizer and father-to-be Mahmoud Khalil in a calculated attempt to silence those speaking out against the Israeli government’s genocide and apartheid. Within 24 hours of being detained, Mahmoud was transferred to a Louisiana ICE facility more than 1,000 miles away from his home and his wife who is 8 months pregnant.

We will not allow this to become the new normal.

The detention of Mahmoud Khalil by the Trump regime is further proof that we are on the brink of a full takeover by a repressive, authoritarian regime. This is what fascists do as they cement control. This is the time where all people of conscience must take bold action to resist state violence and repression.

The Trump regime is trying to crush dissent beginning with those who speak out for Palestinian freedom. Anyone who wants to live in a free and fair society should call this out for what it is — fascism! But the people are united and we won’t back down. Free Mahmoud Khalil!

Tell Congress to protect our constitutional rights and demand Mahmoud’s immediate release: bit.ly/freemahmoudnow
