Join us for an evening with New York DSA elected officials Chi Osse (NYC), Sarahana Shrestha (Mid-Hudson Valley), and Mo Brown (Syracuse) to discuss public power! Working-class communities shouldn't have to pay the price for corporate profits. We deserve clean water, safe housing, affordable utilities, and a healthy environment.

Utility bills are soaring while data centers are driving up energy demand. So what can our elected officials do? How can communities hold corporations accountable before these costs rise further?

Come ask questions, share your concerns, and talk about how we can use our collective power to demand that our energy system serves the people!

Just some thoughts we'd like folks to keep in mind today.

For those of you who don't know Trump is coming to town today, and no doubt many of you will be out there protesting. We want to take this time to remind everyone to please, be careful of what you say and how you conduct yourselves.

Syracuse DSA is an organization governed by the principle of non violence, and we know our members will conduct themselves accordingly. But we ask everyone to please not do anything that will put yourselves or those around you in any danger. Things will no doubt be tense today, and there could be very serious consequences if people do anything that could be spun as violent or overly antagonistic.

Follow the lead of the safety organizers (those designated by Syracuse DSA will be wearing red shirts under their hi-vis vests), keep yourself and those around you safe, and keep your eyes and ears open for any possible threats of violence to/from those around you.

Make yourself heard, stand up alongside your community to show that Syracuse does not welcome Trump and his movement of hate, but do not endanger yourselves, or the community at large.

Stay safe and stay together. If you're worried about anything regarding safety at the action, please seek out a marshal wearing a hi-vis vest with a red shirt under it. Those are the Syracuse DSA safety organizers though other organizations will also have marshals as well.

We mourn three years of genocide.
We demand an end to US complicity.
We call on Congressman John W. Mannion to sign onto the Block the Bombs Act.

October 8, 2026 marks three years of unrelenting genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. The US is funding, arming, and enabling the ongoing genocide.

We call on John Mannion to join 82 of his colleagues in the House and sign on to HR 3565 Block the Bombs Act which would stop the US from sending the deadliest weapons to Israel as they target civilians and all forms of life in Gaza, the West Bank, and neighboring countries.

In a recent Central Current article, Patrick McCarthy details Mannion’s evasive tendencies when called upon to speak with constituents about stopping financial and military support for Israel’s genocide. Mannion has consistently dodged attempted sit-down meetings with organizers in his district.

Congressman Mannion, this isn’t complicated. The reported number of Palestinians killed by Israel since October 2023 is 71,000 and we know that number only continues to grow as our politicians shamefully vote to send billions more dollars and weapons to Israel. This must come to an end. Mannion, do the right thing.

BLOCK THE BOMBS NOW!

Syracuse DSA stands with and echoes the demands of Cornell Young Democratic Socialists of America.

We denounce any and all attempts to identify Jane Doe as it is solely an attempt to shame the victim of horrendous abuse who has the right to any safety and anonymity that chooses to seek. The statistics of violent and non-violent SA in this country are staggering: The fact of the matter is that if you know and love more than one woman or trans person, you know and love a victim of one or both forms of this abuse. We will not change these statistics for the better by shaming victims into silence. We will not change things for the better by simply forcing these abusers to write an essay and then move on with their lives. We will not change things for the better by being complicit in r*pe culture.

F**k "boys will be boys." F**k complicity. F**k patriarchy.

CLOSE INFORMAL ICE COLLLUSION LOOPHOLES!!

Yesterday in Oswego, CBP agents pulled guns out and pursued two men onto the roof of a home. CBP got onto the roof because the Oswego fire department provided ladders and support. Banning formal ICE agreements isn’t enough. We need to close the loopholes that allow informal cooperation between public services and federal immigration enforcement.

Local police, firefighters, public facilities, equipment, and information should not become resources for ICE!! Not even ladders!

We call on the NYS Assembly and Senate to support public funds for the public good! Close the informal collusion loopholes!

DSA is hosting Sonny's Free Store to anyone present, no hoops to jump through, no email list (unless you want to) just a brief check out process to help us keep track of what we have. No money exchanged, once again free. Items are used donations that have been cleaned and inspected for holes, stains, and any other disqualifying condition. They are ready for a second life and by the way did we say free? Come visit DSA and the Sonny Free Store at the Westcott Street Fair!

Voters in New York's 129th Assembly District recognize the only solutions capitalism seems to prescribe is tax cuts/subsidies for corporations, as bought-off politicians say they know how we should spend our money (spoiler alert: on those same corporations and the interests of their billionaire donor buddies).

Democratic Socialism simply means delivering for working people. But what exactly would those results look like? At his September 13th Town Hall meeting in Geddess last weekend, State Assembly Candidate Mo Brown was asked by a resident about what he thinks government can do to not only reduce crime, but to invest in our children and give people jobs. The short answer is: we invest in ourselves to keep ourselves comfortable and safe, but he gets into some specifics.

At Mo Brown's recent town hall he was asked about the difference between capitalism and socialism. He chose to highlight something very fundamental, capitalists will take your tax dollars and spend it on aquariums, bailing out failing malls, and other business ventures in the hopes the market will fix the community. Socialists simply want to take that same money and spend it directly on the community. We will fund parks, education, community centers, and more while capitalists will blow millions on ventures that only ever enrich themselves and their friends. Never the community. Here's his answer below.
