Syracuse Community Radio

Syracuse Community Radio Grassroots, non-commercial radio for Syracuse and Onondaga County Help us use radio as a tool to build community in Syracuse!

For the past 17 years, the Federal Communicatons Commission has not allowed, for a variety of reasons, anyone to apply for a new non-commercial FM radio station located in the City of Syracuse -- UNTIL NOW. Next month, Syracuse Community Radio will be taking advantage of this rare opportunity to apply for a 100 watt FM signal right in the City of Syracuse and we're excited! We will be taking advan

tage of a new FCC initiative to expand Low Power FM (LPFM) radio into places like Syracuse for the first time. Because this may be our one and only chance to get an LPFM, we are using a professional broadcast engineer to help us get this right and to maximize our chances for success. However, this costs real money and we would encourage those interested to support us financially on this if you can. SCR was founded specifically to bring volunteer-based, grassroots, non-commercial community radio to the FM radio dial of Syracuse, New York. We are local voices sharing with their neighbors through the tool of FM radio, while supporting local music specifically and independent music generally. We also air alternative media viewpoints such as "Democracy Now!" and promote discussion of important local issues through a variety of public affairs programming. We also feel it is critical to involve youth in all of these activities, so we make special efforts to incorporate them into our operations.
