Dostdar Ali Khel was a sophomore at Henninger High School. Like many teens, he loved spending time with his friends and could spend all night playing Fortnite with them.
He was one of nine children, who along with their mom, made their home in Syracuse after escaping the violence in Afghanistan. Dostdar’s father was killed in a bombing in that country.
Though his family had been through a lot, he was always smiling, several friends said.
On Oct. 7, Dostdar was shot and killed at a friend’s home on the North Side.
"He was just a kid," said Dostdar's oldest brother. 🔑 This story is made possible by our subscribers and you may be asked to subscribe or login to see the complete text: https://l.syracuse.com/c8sb53
