NYWEA’s VP-Elect, Gregory Shaw, Jr., visited North Rockland High School on 4/15/2026 to be a part of the dry run of the 2026 Engineering Academy’s Senior Class presentation. The seniors, have been working on their ‘project’ since last October. They are now entering the final weeks of their senior year and they are preparing to present their projects next month. The students were also brought to NYWEA’s NYC Watershed Science & Technical Conference last year. The projects ranged from a perceptual motion machine, to a tee-shirt launcher, to developing a web based app for local EMS services, and a Maglev Train (Superconducting Magnetic Levitating train). A lot of these projects were developed with just a thought and a concept on a piece of paper, to producing a slide deck on how they are going to develop their project to ultimately physically producing it with a 3D printer at the high school. With 20+ students, they are all in various stages of completing their project, with a mad dash to the finish line. The students had to get up in front of a panel of teachers, administrators and Gregg and were given constructive criticism on not only their project and how to improve it, but also from the perspective from presenting in front of an audience.
