Central Region Prevention Resource Center Empowering communities by building, training and sustaining community coalitions to prevent AOD abuse

The Central Region Prevention Resource Center was established in 2008 with an award from the NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS). The Center, a division of Prevention Network (www.preventionnetworkcny.org) in Syracuse, New York encompasses thirteen counties and is divided into four quadrants. Our goal is to empower communities to address issues regarding alcohol and other drug pr

evention through building and working with provider and grassroots community coalitions. CR-PRC Community Development Specialists (CDS) provide consultation, technical assistance and training to coalitions and individuals. The CR-PRC supports a healthy community concept encompassing environmental strategies (such as media campaigns and planning/implementing policies) and evidence based practices in accomplishing its goal.

Last week, the PRC had the privilege to attend CADCA forum in Washington, D.C.

Here at forum, a coalition in St.Lawerence county presented on their community and the effective ways that their coalition has reached rural populations.

Shoutout this central New York coalition for all the hard work they are doing (and formentioning their PRC’s in their presentation!)
