Ofc. C. Black (right) recently stopped by the PBA Office to pick up her retirement gifts from PBA Sergeant at Arms D. Pelz. Ofc. Black, a U.S. military member, proudly completed over 20 years of service at SPD, spending a significant portion of her career as a school resource officer. Congratulations, and enjoy retirement, Ofc. Black!

The Syracuse PBA proudly endorses Geneanne Keegan-Smith for Onondaga County Legislator, District 11! For over 30 years, Geneanne worked for the NYS Dept. of Agriculture, Division of NYS Fair, playing an integral role in supporting and managing one of the largest annual events in the country. Today, Geneanne continues her commitment to public service as the Assistant Event Director and Fundraising Manager for The Baldwin Fund.

With over 15 years of experience as a prosecutor at the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office, and the current Felony Trial Bureau Chief, Mike possesses the necessary skills to make an outstanding NYS judge!

The Syracuse PBA proudly endorses Matthew Doran for Onondaga County Court Judge! Judge Doran has been on the Bench since 2016, and the citizens of Onondaga County need his experience now more than ever. Vote for Judge Doran on Election Day, NOV 3rd. Early voting is from OCT 24th-NOV 1st.

Yesterday, PBA President J. Moran and PBA Vice President D. Patti attended the 42nd Annual Columbus Day Luncheon at the OnCenter to support PBA member/Ofc. Pastorello, as he received the Pirro Family “Santa Maria” Award for assisting Rhea Holmes, a woman he encountered who was homeless at the time and sleeping in a cemetery. Ofc. Pastorello’s actions helped Holmes secure permanent housing. Well done, Ofc. Pastorello!

Today, we remember SPD Det. William “Bomber” LaShomb, who tragically passed away on OCT 11th, 2020, as a result of a carbon monoxide poisoning accident. Bomber was highly regarded and respected within the Department; everybody liked him. RIP, Bomber…we are always thinking of you.

PBA President J. Moran and PBA Executive VP L. Brown attended the Police Conference of New York convention in Monticello, NY, where they had the pleasure of meeting William “Will” Jimeno (center), a special guest and presenter at the convention regarding his heroic actions on 9/11. A rookie cop for the Port Authority Police Department, Will raced into the South Tower at the World Trade Center to save as many civilians as possible, but when the building collapsed, Will was severely injured and trapped underneath concrete and rubble for 13 hours until he was finally rescued. Will’s story, which is featured in the movie World Trade Center, was heart wrenching and truly impactful. Most compelling was Will’s patriotism and love for America!

PBA members Ofc. G. Prudhomme, Ofc. F. Gilbert and Det. C. Townsend were proud supporters at the Michael Jensen Memorial Golf Tournament. The proceeds raised at the event go into a scholarship fund at Le Moyne college for incoming freshman, with the Jensen family involved in the selection process for applicants. Well done, members!
