Teachers, homeschoolers, community members; here is a fun program hosted by Pizza Hut that you can use to help encourage kids to follow a reading program. They provide all the trackers throughout the year and information on how it work. There's also a scholarship opportunity!

BOOK IT! motivates children to read by rewarding their reading accomplishments with praise, recognition and pizza. The program is simple, flexible, fun and free to use in your classroom! BOOK IT! was created in 1984 and currently reaches more than 14 million students and 37,000 PreK-6 grade schools....

This is an interesting article that explains briefly the Covid decline in reading and math scores nationwide. It's not all doom and gloom but we definitely need to stay progressive and make sure our students are getting the assistance they need.

This is and has been a major goal for Read For Success Foundation and I continue to work every day to make sure by 2023 we are implementing programs to assist these students. Stay tuned and feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Why did 9-year-olds do so badly during the pandemic?

Hey Friends and Fam. Last semester (6 months ago) I sent out a survey to my teacher friends and parent friends who deal with children with reading struggles. This video is the result of the project I worked on. I want to thank everyone for their help in this project. I got a B+ in the class :-).

This is however more than a grade for me. I am very passionate about my desire to help children learn to read and to help make parents lives easier for their children who struggle. This project introduces my goals with my non profit Read for Success Foundation that I started right before Covid. I have had to change my mission and goals with this project a few times (which is why I haven't been on social media much bc I've been working my tail off :-) but the overall goal of helping these children and families remains the same. All children should feel like they are smart and that they matter despite any differences they have. They should all be able to enjoy the written word and get lost in the adventures of a great story.

At the end of the video I present solutions that I am currently actively working on. Sherry Evans, who I feel I can call friend, but is very knowledgeable in the world of Dyslexia, is going to take the active role of President in this non profit while I change positions to Vice President. This change will happen shortly and I know she will help progress this organization to the place I want it to go. I started this with the goal to just get books into kids hands and now its become a bigger project that everyone says is too hard to do. That was before they met me! Nothing is too hard if you want it bad enough. My only hold back is there's not enough time in the day for me. :-)

So please watch this video and see if you learned something new. Feel free to reach out to me or Sherry Evans with questions you have and if you feel prompted please donate to Read for Success Foundation while we start moving forward in our programming for 2023 and helping families get affordable tutoring for their students.

I've read this argument a few times on how we should be focusing more science and history material in our elementary students. I'd love to know your opinion on if you feel your elementary student knows a good amount of knowledge in these fields. I've recently picked up Tuttle Twin series for my kids to begin introducing different thought provoking topics on government.

To become better readers, Natalie Wexler says, students should grapple with abundant, high-caliber texts in the elementary grades—not just skills and strategies.

Since the pandemic, some schools are finding it hard to keep up with the rhythms of high dose tutoring which is affecting the growth of children's education. We are slowly progressing, especially now that school education boards are understanding the need for new methods of teaching reading. Read for Success Foundation is going to be dedicated to making sure the science of reading methods are adopted in education teaching and also that tutoring is available to those who need it.

Tutoring is by far the most effective way to help children catch up at school, according to rigorous research studies. The research community urged schools to spend a big chunk of their roughly $190 billion in federal pandemic recovery funds on what is called “high-dosage” tutoring. That means t...

More evidence that the science of reading is effective method in teaching children how to read, especially our children with dyslexia. It's time for change in our schools and for our teachers.

Lucy Calkins, a leading literacy expert, has rewritten her curriculum to include a fuller embrace of phonics and the science of reading. Critics may not be appeased.

Hey Utah friends. I am working on a final project for one of my classes and could use your help completing one or both of these surveys. The data collected will also help me with grant writing for the mission of my non-profit Read for Success Foundation.

If you're a Utah parent that has or suspects you have a kid with reading disadvantages/disabilities, can you please complete this survey: https://usu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0qulLmRzoOSXJI2

If you're a Utah educator or have worked as a Utah educator can you complete this survey: https://usu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8ol2OFBjQAQ0Zca

All your entries are anonymous and used for my data project to see if there is a need for a free reading training program for parents and teachers with kids who struggle with Dyslexia. Thanks for your feedback. Feel free to message me with any questions.

Some kids struggle with retelling stories they just read which is a sign of poor reading comprehension. It's great to help them improve in these areas but it's also helpful to let them be creative and build their confidence in their ability to create their own stories. Here's a cute activity for your little to make and create their own imaginative stories with them. From Pizza Hut Book It Program!

Print out this cootie catcher and use it to have your students craft their own stories. Folding and activity instructions are included.
