As the District moves to renew the Memorandum of Understanding with the Syracuse Police Department to provide School Resource Officers to our District high schools, we are seeking public input for the process.

This is an opportunity for students, staff and community members to provide their opinion in the area of this practice, and overall student safety. All input gathered will be reviewed by the District SRO Committee and evaluated for feasibility as the final agreement is drafted. We welcome the greater school community’s voice as we discuss school safety and to assist us in prioritizing our safety objectives.

Congratulations to Lt. Tamica Barnett!

CONGRATULATIONS to Lieutenant Tamica Barnett on the recent promotion by the Syracuse Fire Department. This marks her as the 1st Black Female Lieutenant in the departments history!

Lt. Tamica Barnett joined the fire department in August of 2011. She spent three years at Engine 10, three years at Engine 2, and almost four years at Ladder 4. As a lieutenant, she is assigned to Engine 3, floating on the D- Shift.

Lt. Barnett is a Syracuse native who grew up on Croly Street, on Syracuse’s East Side. She attended Syracuse City Schools, graduating from Henninger High School in 2002. She then earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from St. Bonaventure University.

Lt. Barnett is a commissioner of education for the Syracuse City School District, and board member of the districts Educational Foundation.

She is the mother of AJ, a 8th Grade student at H. W. Smith K-8 School.

Last year, she started her own Catering business - Who Want Smoke BBQ & Catering.
