Cub Scout Pack 157 - North Syracuse

Cub Scout Pack 157 - North Syracuse Cub Scout Pack 157 is a member of the Crossroads District of the Longhouse Council.

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. There are four aims of Scouting: citizenship, character, personal fitness, and leadership. The methods of Cub Scouting are: living the ideals, belonging to a den, advancement, family involvement, activities, serving the community, and the uniform.

It was a busy weekend for our Pack in the village. On Saturday, our Scouts participated in the North Syracuse Community Festival. On Monday, a few of our Scouts participated in the North Syracuse Memorial Day parade.

It was exciting hearing from many members of the community how they use to be part of Pack 157, “… a long time ago!” Our unit has been around for 57 years (according to our charter) and has served a countless number of youth. We’re proud to still be here and serving our youth!

The Cub Scouts of Pack 157 participated in an Earth Day cleanup of Toll Road Park in North Syracuse. Despite the rain and wind, the Scouts worked together to clean up two bags of trash and tidy up the grounds.

Some changes are coming to the Cub Scout program. They will be discussed in the upcoming Cub Chat Live.

Crossroads District Cub Leaders,

On Friday April 5th, Scouting Magazine's Cub Chat Live will be hosting a session on Den and Pack Meeting planning under the new Cub advancement program. Hopefully it will contain some good information and resources as we prepare for the program update in June.

The video will be cast live at 3pm (2pm Central) on Scouting Magazine's page https://www.facebook.com/scoutingmagazine/live_videos/ and Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/scoutingmag and will be available to review after the live cast as well.

Additionally, I'm told that the Scout shop expects to have new handbooks in sometime in April, which is a sign that we should continue to see more and more information about the new program next month.

Best,
Brendan

New details of the Summertime Award.

Pack 157 runs a year-round program. While we don’t have our weekly meetings during the summer, we do hold events for each month. Many of our Scouts enjoy the adventure of Cub Day Camp, we’ve gone on hikes, gone to baseball games, and have eaten plenty of ice cream!

If your K-5 son or daughter is interested in joining, please reach out and we’ll help you get started!

The National Summertime Pack award has been reimagined into an elective Adventure named Summertime Fun. This new Adventure may be one of the most straightforward Adventures, it has one requirement: anytime during May through August, participate in three Cub Scout activities.

As the National Summertime Pack award was evaluated it was deemed a valuable method to promote summer activities such as Cub Scout Day Camp and Cub Scout Resident Camp. It was also determined that requiring a percentage of participation for the National Summertime Pack award was unfair to those who attended when the percentage of participation was not achieved.

The new Summertime Fun elective Adventure is available for Tiger through Arrow of Light. Lions do not begin Cub Scouting until they are attending Kindergarten in the fall, so there are no summertime activities for Lions.

Thank you to everyone that supported our bottle and can drive yesterday! We took on the challenge of filling “the big truck” and did a pretty great job. These cans go a long way in helping provide the program to our FUTURE LEADERS!
