Hello everyone! Check out this Sun Day event sponsored by Climate Change Action & Awareness and the DeWitt Advisory Conservation Committee:

"On September 21, a Sunday of course, thousands of people will gather across the U.S. to spread the message that the clean energy revolution is here. By harnessing the sun – whose thermal energy also gives rise to wind – instead of burning fossil fuels, we can all enjoy cleaner air, lower utility bills and a host of other benefits.

Bill McKibben (founder of 350.org and climate activist) and nonprofit communication lab Fossil Free Media are spearheading this day of action to celebrate the progress humanity has made in advancing and adopting renewable energy – and to push for a faster transition away from fossil fuels.

SO, JOIN IN THE LOCAL FUN! On September 21!!

PLACE: Cedar Bay Park, Cedar Bay Road Fayetteville (between Kinne Rd. and Burdick St.)

TIME: 2 – 5 p.m.

Enjoy music by Colleen Kattau, the UNITY Band, and others.

Reps. Elise Stefanik and Nick Langworthy find the smoke wafting over New York "unacceptable." So is trashing efforts to fight climate change, say letter writers.

It's clear that our future is on the line, and protecting our climate is more important than ever. We have to seize every opportunity to bring our planet back to life. Please take a moment to read how our volunteers (thanks to Bob, Martha, and Zac!) are urging Congress to preserve the climate protections in the Inflation Reduction Act:

55th anniversary of Earth Day, April 22, calls us to act against global warming, decimation of other species and environmental degradation, write members of Citizens’ Climate Lobby.

Happy Earth Month! We at Syracuse CCL wanted to take the time to bring an important issue to your attention:

The Syracuse Post-Standard of April 9th features the story of President Trump's signing executive orders to turn the clock back to a time when coal was king, the time of the Industrial Revolution around the turn of the 19th century when coal was a primary fuel source that powered machinery, factories, and transportation. The President is attempting to clear the way for coal to resume its place in the collection of energy sources that will feed our increasing demand for electricity to fuel manufacturing and data centers needed for AI technologies.

As we all know, coal had its place as a fuel source before we came to understand that it is a primary source of pollution in the forms of climate-warming greenhouse gas emissions and a host of toxic materials including the acid rain that damaged the forests, aquatic life, and soil of the Adirondacks. Lucky for all of us, both environmental legislation and the financial markets began to erode coal's dominance in the late 20th century. Now, coal is dying a natural death because of its effects on the environment and because of its waning financial viability. Rather than attempting to resuscitate the patient, we should allow it to succumb to competition from less expensive and less polluting fuel sources.

The link below is to a 2019 press release from the Adirondack Council that discusses the link between midwestern coal plants and the damage to the Adirondacks caused by acid rain. This link should be of special interest to New Yorkers.

Check out this wonderful Op-Ed written by one of our volunteers and signed on by seven others! Do you think it's time we utilize nuclear energy?

Renewables alone cannot solve the climate crisis and get us to zero carbon emissions, writes environmentalist/nuclear engineer joined by seven others.

CALL TO ACTION📢: Call Gov. Hocul and urge her to sign the Climate Change Superfund Act into law!

This bill forces corporations with high carbon emissions to pay for their impacts on our climate. The revenue goes to communities disproportionally impacted by climate change and to renewable infrastructure within New York State.
