One year later, the same faction that attacked our country on January 6th is hard at work silencing our voices by restricting our freedom to vote, attacking fair voting districts, and quietly preparing future attempts to sabotage free and fair elections and with it our democracy.

Coming together, we can prevent another January 6th attack and realize the promise of democracy for all of us - no matter our color, zip code, or income - so we all have an equal say in the decisions that shape our daily lives and futures.

Since then, Stop AAPI Hate has documented at least 3,795 reported incidents of hate against Asian American and Pacific Islanders, including the recent murders in the Atlanta area. Trump's scapegoating builds on generations of Anti-Asian Racism and public policy, from the Chinese Exclusion Act through internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II, the aggressive US Wars in Korea and Viet Nam to ongoing discrimination. Months ago we urged people to prepare in case of a coup – and to prepare to act decisively if a coup begins. This scenario has unfolded differently. What we have seen has been slow, poorly rolled out, and has none of the surprise elements associated with a traditional coup.

There are reasons for concern: the government refusing to authorize resources for Biden’s transition team, prominent Republicans refusing to honor the election results , and Attorney General Bill Barr instructing the DOJ to look into serious “allegations” of supposed voter fraud.

Yet votes continue to be counted deliberately and fairly. The media continues to treat Biden as the president-elect. Secretaries of State are standing by the election process. World leaders, Democrats, and many Republicans have congratulated Biden on his win.

We keep looking at each news item through this lens: Are the actions by these institutions and individuals able to change the outcome of the election?

The answer is no. Given where we are, we don’t think we have to spring into action with mass nonviolent civil disobedience.

Trump’s campaign is filing lawsuits, but they don’t go anywhere. They are consistently losing in the courts because they have no evidence. Trump’s campaign has the support of individuals, but not institutions.
