On May 20th, a remarkable jazz archive is heading to auction at Lion Heart Autographs NY.

Personal letters and documents from legends like Dave Brubeck, Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, Paul Desmond and our own Les Paul captured a pivotal decade of jazz.

You can bid on four signed letters detailing Les and Mary’s 1951 tour and holiday cards offering a personal glimpse into Les’ life on and off the road.

The archive was assembled by New Jersey jazz columnist Harold “Hal” Flaherty and is a living records of artists, innovators and cultural forces that propelled jazz from smoky clubs into global prominence, and Les and Mary were a big part of that evolution.

Bid is via invaluable.com or liveauctioneers.com.

The Les Paul Foundation is saddened to hear about Neil Sedaka’s passing.

Neil was a huge fan of Les, having been influenced by both Les and Mary in his own career. Sedaka was inspired by their use of overdubbing and claimed to be one of the first singers to use multi-tracking on his recordings.

In 2007, Neil performed alongside Les two of hit tracks at the Iridium, “Breaking Up is Hard to Do” and “Laughter in the Rain.”
