Memorial Day is one of the most important annual commemorations at the park, when we remember and honor those who died in service to our country. Each year, the park conducts activities to commemorate the Memorial Day Holiday.

Prior to the holiday, the Avenue of Flags is raised in the National Cemetery by Park Staff and volunteers. Throughout the weekend, we ask that you honor our veterans by visiting the National Cemetery.

5/15 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM - Avenue of Flags: flag raising along National Cemetery Road.
5/23 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM - Memorial Day Ceremony and Flag Placement.
5/25 3:00 PM - Taps Across America in Andersonville National Cemetery

Post 335 Members — here’s a great opportunity to support a National Day of Service and lend a hand at one of our most meaningful historic sites. Andersonville National Historic Site will be participating in Park Day on April 25, 2026, and volunteers are needed to help with light cleanup and beautification throughout the day.

If you enjoy serving the community, preserving history, or just spending time outdoors with a purpose, this is a simple way to make a real difference.

We invite you to join us on Park Day on April 25, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Volunteering at Park Day is a hands-on way to support a National Day of Service at historic parks and sites. This year, Andersonville National Historic Site will take part with cleanup work such as weeding and freshening up flower beds, picking up branches, and cleaning wayside.
