HIGHTS HIGHTS' mission is to transform youth in WNC by helping inspire gifts of hope, trust, and service.

HIGHTS works in Western North Carolina by serving youth, families, and community organizations. We use experiential activities, community service projects, job training, and goal driven exercises to help develop life skills and instill feelings of community belonging and purpose. Created in the spring of 2007, HIGHTS has sponsored educational opportunities, recreational activities, job skills trai

ning, and community service projects for public schools, mental health agencies, church youth groups, and many other community organizations. We believe that connecting people to local natural and community resources improves their lives and makes our community stronger.

At the HIGHTS Hive, our PATH clients are stepping into hands-on learning that connects skill-building with real-world experience 🐝

Our PATH clients are getting hands-on experience with bees, the inner workings of the hive, and the incredible process of making honey. From understanding how bees work together to produce something so valuable, to carefully bottling honey themselves, this is a valuable lesson in teamwork, as well as a trade skill.

Working with honey teaches patience, builds confidence, and encourages mindfulness. Every step requires focus and care, offering a calming, grounding experience that supports mental wellness. Just like cooking, being part of this process allows our young adults to slow down, stay present, and take pride in creating something meaningful from start to finish.

And the benefits do not stop there - honey itself is a powerhouse. Naturally antibacterial and full of uses, it’s a reminder that something small can have a big impact.

Haywood HIGHTS is excited to have worked alongside the Purchase K**b Science Education Center to collect and log data on salamanders! Since these amazing creature live both in water and on land, they help us better understand the health and quality of our environment.

Ending with some quiet, reflective silent journaling! Using nature as a tool to slow down, process thoughts, and build awareness. A simple moment to reset, reflect, and carry intention forward into the next season.
