Archie's Adventures

I was "asked" to try on some Halloween costumes. It was not my cup of tea exactly but I cooperated because I am a good boy. What do you think? I plan to sit outside and greet the trick or treaters, which is best for me?

I've had so many fascinating adventures lately! I haven't kept up with my page! Yikes! Let me see what I can do about that. Let's start with yesterday's trip to the Pumpkin 🎃 Patch and farm. It was super windy with dust blowing everywhere but the SMELLS! I was brave and confident as I explored new, strange looking and smelling "dogs" ??? My raisers called them goats, cows, 🐎 and 🐖 🐷 🐽!! Let me show you! Catch that loose-leash walking picture! And the sweetest little girl that let me 💋 😘 give kisses AND THE PIGGIES!!! Puppies-in-training to be special service dogs have so much to learn and things to smell and experiences to learn from. Thank you to my awesome sponsors Boots and Slippers Square Dance Simi Valley and everyone at Guide Dogs of America - Tender Loving Canines ❤️

In May, the Government of Ontario amended a regulation under the Provincial Offences Act, allowing police officers to issue tickets on the spot when someone denies service to a person accompanied by a guide dog.

The new enforcement option follows more than three years of advocacy by CNIB, guide dog handlers and advocates calling for stronger, more practical enforcement of guide dog access rights.

CNIB’s Shannon Kinch and Larissa Proctor reflect on the advocacy efforts that led to the new enforcement option: https://www.cnib.ca/en/blog/advocating-strengthen-enforcement-guide-dog-handlers-rights-ontario

A black banner at the upper left reads, “Did you know?” A bright yellow panel across the bottom reads, “In Ontario, police officers can now issue on-the-spot tickets when someone denies service to a person accompanied by a guide dog.”

September is National Guide Dog Month, a great opportunity to learn more about guide dogs and the important partnerships they form with their people. 🦮

Knowing what to do when you encounter a working guide dog team is part of that. These simple etiquette tips can help a guide dog stay focused while working and make interactions with their person more respectful and helpful.

To learn more, listen to the latest episode of "Ask the Vet," featuring Rebekah Cross, Vice President of Philanthropy at Guiding Eyes for the Blind and a member of a guide dog team herself. Rebekah joins Dr. Ann Hohenhaus to discuss her personal experience with guide dogs, how dogs are raised and trained, what to know when you encounter a guide dog team, and more.

For the first few decades of the breed, essentially every Labrador was black. 🖤 Yellow was widely considered a fault, and pups born that shade were often quietly removed from litters.

Then in 1899 a dog named Ben of Hyde was born, the first yellow Labrador ever registered. Owned by Major C.E.D. Radclyffe in England, Ben became the foundation for every yellow Labrador that exists today. That entire spectrum of cream, gold, and fox red traces back through this one dog.

It is strange to sit with the idea that the golden Lab, maybe the most instantly recognizable dog image in the world, began life as an unwanted color that a single breeder decided was worth keeping. 💛

I almost forgot! Thursday, September 17th, 2026 I turned 10 months old and I'm 62 pounds of happy, friendly, and super smart lab puppy. Today's adventures were to go for the 3rd time with my raiser to her physical therapy. It's very busy and noisy but I am learning what is expected of me in this sort of environment. With so many nice people, smells, and noises, I really want to explore but "settling " is my job. 🦮🐾🐾❤️

I had fantastic adventures today! I had a play date with Waldo! We had so much fun! We are only a month apart in age and just about the same size. I was introduced to a new toy that I loved so much that my raiser went on line and ordered one of my own! I can't wait to get it. I love chasing it, retrieving it and carrying it around. Its the best! (From Jolly Ball) Then we made a quick trip to the Post Office and home. I took a nice long nap!
To the best sponsors ever, Boots and Slippers Square Dance Simi Valley thank you!!! I hope you like pictures of me playing today!

September 8th, 2026 My adventure today was to go with my raiser to something called Physical Therapy. It took me a little bit to figure out what I was supposed to do because there was a lot to see and smell and people talking and moving all around. I found a button under the bed my raiser was on that was I could stand on. I guess it made the bed go up and down! I finally figured out I needed to settle and then my raiser stood up and said "let's go" Really? Just when I was a shining example of a service dog in training?
