Golden Years Dog Sanctuary

Golden Years Dog Sanctuary Saving senior dogs so they may enjoy the last bit of their life with love and freedom from cages. Fostering at risk cats and kittens from local shelters.

Golden years dog sanctuary is our way to help senior dogs. My husband and I rescue senior dogs from local shelters to give them the best of the rest of their life. Living in a semi-rural canyon outside Los Angeles dogs were dumped at our horse farm all the time. When the dogs stopped being dumped; we went to the shelters instead. we always went for the older, less attractive, dogs that no one else

wanted. Since we could only have 3 dogs in Los Angeles county, even though we own 11 acres; we obtained an excessive animal permit. Now we can have up to 18 dogs at a time. we became a 501c so those who would like to help up feed and care for these dogs can make their contribution tax deductible. We have expanded our rescue efforts by fostering dogs as well as always having 18 at the sanctuary. join us in saving a life: Foster or adopt today.

Yesterday we rescued 15 year old Chloe, from the downey shelter. she came in as a stray, but she had an old microchip number. Her birthdate is listed as April 1, 2011. no joke, she's fifteen years old and was dumped at the shelter. Thankfully, we found a most wonderful foster who's willing to give her the best of the rest of her life. We named her challah, which is bread in hebrew. She will see our vet at the beginning of this weej, and we'll get a better idea what we need to do to help her. We know she needs yo gaun weight. She also has a little bit of separation anxiety, so we're working on that. Its very typical for dogs when they first get out of the shelter. Thankfully our foster is patient and loving and helping challah feel comfortable and realize she is hit the jackpot with this home.

Oh, our sweet Cyrano, you definitely had the best of the rest of your life! You went to the beach and lakes, and you went hiking, played at parks. And had the best person ever, who loved an adored you for over two years. We rescued Cyrano, aka capone , from the castaic shelter july 12, 2023. We had a foster home lined up, but it turns out he had a high prey drive and they had horses. He chased them on day one, and we took him back. We then found another foster home with a super nice woman who had two other dogs. That was going great for a little while. But we knew we needed to find him forever home. then nine months later, on april 8, 2024, we found joseph, and it was meant to be it was the perfect match.Joseph took him everywhere and adored him. Unfortunately cyrano went into heart failure earlier this year. we put him on medication, which helped for quite a while. And then yesterday, June 2nd he just went downhill. He went from having a wonderful day on monday to not even being able to get up and walk on tuesday. Saying goodbye was not easy, but the right thing to do. He was a super special dog and we were so glad we gave him the best of the best his life. it just wasn't enough for us.

As if I didn't have enough on my plate.... Someone actually left a dog in the crate with dog food outside our gate. We're not a shelter, we don't take in strays and owner surrenders. One of my neighbors thinks it may belong to a neighbor up the street. We will obviously do our due diligence to try to find its owner and we will work with him to get him comfortable. But he will need a foster and a forever home asap. we don't really want to take him to the shelter, as he is too scared, but we will notify the shelter that he has been found. if he can help us, please reach out. Our application is on our website. Www.goldenyearsdogsanctuary.com

Meet 16 year old Credence, aka shadow, . I happen to be at the santa clarita valley shelter today because one of my foster cats is getting adopted. Sitting outside was a gentleman with this really old small australian shepherd the owner said the dog is having trouble breathing difficulty walking and pants. They said the dog is tired. he is also partially blind and imping on one leg. They said he was coughing up blood. But instead, of doing the right thing and taking him to their veterinarian for care or euthanasia, they dumped this dog who was adopted as a puppy, back at the shelter. What is wrong with people? So since i'm here and I had transport and a temporary foster ready for a different dog that already got adopted, we're pulling him. This might be the shortest day any dog has ever had in the shelter. I think it's been about ten minutes! But we need your help! We need a forever foster. Im sure he is a hospice dog, which means he may not have many days ahead of him. on the other hand, we have had nany hospice dogs end up living for months once they're in a loving home and get proper medical care. .We will cover all medical care. he needs a home, so he can have the best of the rest of his life.Join our team today. You can find our application on our website. Www.goldenyearsdogsanctuary.com if you're interested in fostering, please call or email susan today. We need a plan for him as soon as possible. We're not letting him stay in the shelter and he has a temporary foster, but he's a little large for our foster, who does all small dogs.
