We can all be proud of how our contributions are spent!

CROP Hunger Walks raise critical funds each year that enable CWS to prepare for and respond immediately to devastating emergencies, like the destruction caused by Hurricane Helene. CROP Hunger Walkers are encouraged to continue to reach out to friends to sponsor their walk as a way to support our neighbors who are struggling to deal with flooding and destruction. While the walks support global and local hunger fighting efforts, a portion of the funds raised this fall will also be designated to long-term disaster recovery.

I was so glad to get an update on Church World Service activities and learn about all the things that CWS is doing to help victims of Helene. Last year's money is making a big difference! Now it's time to re-stock the shelves so that CWS is prepared for next year's needs!

We are grateful for the ways you serve neighbors near and far in need. Join us as CWS celebrates another year of CROP Hunger Walks at our National CROP Hunger Walk Celebration! December 7th at 7pm ET/4pm PT we will gather with individuals across the country, just like you, to recognize the incredible support you show for CWS and your local agencies. We will hear about the work of CWS around the world, celebrate inspiring walkers and volunteers, highlight those going the extra mile, and hear exciting updates on CROP!

A great big thank you to everyone who helped make our 2023 walk a success! We received about $14,000. We will be holding a meeting soon for the leaders to evaluate how things went and to talk about future plans. If anyone wants to share suggestions with us please post a comment. We would love to hear your ideas!

Participants in the Sondra King Crop Hunger Walk return from their pleasant stroll on September 24, 2023. Plans are already in the works for next year's walk in the same location: The Sycamore Forest Preserve in Sycamore, Illinois. A great, big, thank you to everyone who contributed financially or by time and effort in planning and holding the event.

Tomorrow (Sunday, September 24) is the big day. Join us at Sycamore Forest Preserve at 2:00 for the Sondra King Crop hunger Walk. If you have not already registered, you can register on site and sponsor yourself. Drop off your donation at the sign-in table, pick up a water bottle and a BOGO coupon for Johnson's Corn Maze, and head out on your walk. There are also yummy treats at the end of the walk. Choose your own distance, up to 2 miles. We are expecting good weather. See you there !

Our Portillo's fundraiser was a great success! Our supporters spent nearly $1,000 that eveniing, and we receive 20% of the total. Thanks to everyone who stopped by!

Get supper at Portillo's in Sycamore from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, September 11 and help raise money for CROP! Be sure and tell them at the counter when you order that it is for the CROP Hunger Walk Dekalb. Enjoy a great meal and help a worthy cause!

Some of the team captains met at Sycamore Forest Preserve to do some planning for the September 24 walk. Everyone who walks receives a "BOGO" coupon for the corn maze at Johnsons Pumpkin Stand and Corn Maze. To get yours, register at crophungerwalk.org/dekalbil. Then talk to your friends about contributing to a great cause and join us at 2:00 at the Sycamore Forest Preserve.
