A cold front arrival later today may bring strong to severe thunderstorms to the region this afternoon and evening. Damaging winds and isolated flash flooding are the main threats. Also, don't forget about the heat! Many locations will see heat index values soar from 105 to 110°F.

We are very excited to graduate our first class of CERT volunteers!

CERT stands for Community Emergency Response Team. It is a national program that teaches people basic skills to protect themselves, their families, and their neighbors during disasters and emergencies when professional first responders are busy or overwhelmed.

Thank you to everyone that took part in this class over the last few month in any shape form or fashion!

For more information on future classes and events you can send an email to [email protected]

We are monitoring the potential for severe storms Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. The primary hazards will be localized flooding and damaging winds, but depending on whether or not a stable layer of air develops near the surface, a very low tornado risk cannot be ruled out. Stay tuned for updates!

A few strong to severe storms will be possible Monday afternoon and evening. Damaging wind gusts and localized flooding will be the primary hazards.

Monroe County EMA is proud to sponsor an opportunity for citizens to help their neighbors and community during times of disaster through the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program.

The Monroe County CERT program helps educate and train citizens in disaster preparedness and basic emergency response skills, including:

• Fire safety
• Light search and rescue
• Team organization
• Disaster medical operations

CERT members are trained to assist their neighborhoods, workplaces, and communities following emergencies when professional responders may not be immediately available.

CERT is about readiness, people helping people, rescuer safety, and doing the greatest good for the greatest number.

Through this training, citizens learn how to:
• Manage utilities and extinguish small fires
• Treat life-threatening conditions such as blocked airways, severe bleeding, and shock
• Provide basic medical aid
• Conduct safe search and rescue operations
• Organize and work effectively with volunteers during emergencies

In disasters, the actions taken in the first few minutes can make a difference. CERT training empowers ordinary citizens to be prepared and ready to serve their community when it matters most.

See attached photos and information below for more details on how to get involved.
