Important notice about our annual Phillies tailgate.

I recently made the difficult decision to cancel this year's Phillies tailgate. I've held off posting just in case I changed my mind. My heart has not been in it for a while now, and I honestly am not up for all of the work that is entailed to run the event successfully.

The last few years have become increasingly more challenging. The logistics have become harder and harder as well as some of the rules that we have to follow with parking, etc. Last year was a tremendous amount of stress on me and I was 100% truthful that day when I said that I no longer think I can continue to do this. Running an event like that is simply exhausting. I'm 45 years old now and just want to simplify my life.

On top of all of this, game tickets have become more expensive and our inexpensive little tailgate is now going to cost close to 100 bucks to be able to make profits to donate. I have also been putting out very hefty deposits out of my pocket, which is an additional expense and strain on me.

I wish I could say that this was not an easy decision… But it was super easy. I don't know what the future holds for the tailgate. We enjoyed 20 wonderful years and raised around $150,000 for cancer related charities and causes, thanks to everyone's support. This is a cause so important to me and my family and I know my grandparents and our loved ones have been watching down proudly the whole time. But it's time for me to hang up the hat, at least for now.

Bettin’ on a Cure is once again mourning another member of our family. Terry Howard, who we honored as of one of family’s cancer survivors at Relay for Life over the years, passed on May 22nd. Despite her health struggles, she was always so happy, cheerful and optimistic. We will all miss her.

This has been a very tough year for all of us, as we have lost 3 very close family members since January. We mourn them all. 💔

Bettin' on a Cure is heartbroken over the loss of "Big Ed" Bowman, a part of our team and beloved member of our family. Big Ed was a special man, full of life and laughter. He sadly lost a 6 month battle with acute myeloid leukemia this past weekend.

Many of you probably recognize Big Ed's smiling face and friendly personality from one of our events. He always arrived early on tailgate days, helping with set up and bringing all the games for others to enjoy. He also facilitated in bringing our Frozen Tea Party to fruition, amongst other things.

As you can read in his beautiful tribute, we lost a great one too soon. RIP Big Ed. 💔

Like the rest of the Philly area, we are so disappointed about the end of the Phillies season. Not at all what was expected but next season will be even better! To cheer everyone up on this first day of a Phillies-less World Series, Bettin' on a Cure is excited to announce…

Our 20th annual tailgate will be held on May 4, 2024!! Save the date. 20 years will be extra special. ❤️⚾️

Hi friends! We had hoped things would get better and our event would be held in September. Unfortunately, as you know, all Philly events are cancelled until Feb 2021. 😢

We are looking at dates for next year’s Phillies Tailgate, which will be our 17th year. We will be back bigger and better ever, and promise you an unbelievable time.

See you in 2021. In the meantime, stay safe, happy and wear your masks!!

10 years ago TODAY we hosted the most epic Bettin' on a Cure phillies tailgate with over 600 people in FDR Park. Were you there?? Share your memories with us!! It was such a fun day - hard to believe it was 10 years ago!!

Covid May have delayed our 2020 version but we promise we will be back better than ever!!
