Our Founder Nana Kyemereh Kokoankra II, Chief of Wassa Dominase, was enstooled on April 2015. He is the Founder and CEO of Nana Kyemereh Kokoankra II Charitable Foundation. Nana Kyemereh Kokoankra II was a professional trained teacher in Ghana before migrating to the United States. His passion for caring for the disabled led him to work for the New Jersey Association for the Deaf and Blind (now Everest), where he received several awards. Through his leadership skills, Nana also worked and rose through the ranks to become an HR and Supply Chain Training Business Partner at Firmenich Inc.While pursuing his MBA at Rutgers University Business School, Nana Kyemereh Kokoankra II extended his leadership and entrepreneurial skills to start providing his community in Ghana with a good health system, promote good leadership, create jobs and many other community-based resources, ensuring good governance in accordance with the principles of his community. Nana Kyemereh Kokorankra II was particularly moved by the high maternal and infant mortality rates and in Ghana as a whole, in part due to his family members’ experiences. Nana’s own grandmother narrowly escaped death by God’s wisdom while pregnant with his mother for over 12 months, due to lack of antenatal care. In keeping with tradition, Nana’s mother was named “Akyerem,” meaning “held for too long.” Unfortunately, healthcare systems have not improved too drastically since Nana’s mother’s birth. Over the last few years, pregnant women have died and childhood deaths have increased due to lack of easy access to quality health facilities in Wassa-Amenfi Dominase and its surroundings. Nana’s grandmother’s experiences, his humble beginnings, and the ongoing plight of pregnant women and infants have inspired him to build this foundation to help eradicate maternal and infant mortality in his community and beyond. Nana Kyemereh Kokoankra II also intends to provide improved education, sanitation, agriculture and healthcare for his people. Read more about our focal areas.
