The Keynote Speaker for What Is Your Africa is Bridget Boakye


Bridget Boakye is a writer, educator, and entrepreneur based in Accra, Ghana. Raised in both Ghana and the U.S., Bridget has built her career around education, business, and the media in an effort to positively contribute to the development of Ghana and the continent. She is the cofounder of TalentsinAfrica, a recruitment and skills accelerator to address the continent’s unemployment crisis and a passionate contributor to Ghana’s startup ecosystem. She is also the co-founder of Women's Corner GH and Africans on China. She is a Global Shaper of the World Economic Forum, a Harambe Entrepreneur Alliance Associate, an Amplify Africa Fellow, a Frank 5 Fellow of Swarthmore College, and an alumna of the Yale School of Management, Global Pre-MBA Leadership Program.

Sankofa’s debut performance will be happening this Friday. Sankofa is Swarthmore’s very own African Dance Group and its aim is to express the different dance styles and music across the African continent.

I hope everyone is excited for Afro Week because we have awesome events lined up!!!!! First of all, we will be screening Rafiki on Wednesday, April 10 from 4:30 pm -6:00 pm at Kohlberg 115.

The movie, Rafiki (Swahili word for Friend), is the story of friendship and tender love that grows between two young women, Kena and Ziki, amidst family and political pressures around LGBT rights in Kenya.
It is directed by the talented Wanuri Kahiu and features Sheila Munyiva, Samantha Mugatsia among others.
Rafiki has won many awards since its premiere such as Silver Q Hugo Film Awards in Chicago International Film Festival, Jury and Audience Awards in Seattle Q***r Film Festival, Best Actress -Samantha Mugatsia in the 2019 FESPACO in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso -just to mention a few.

After the movie screening, we will have discussions about Love and Sexuality in the African Context.

Come and invite your friends too. Refreshments will be provided!

Hellooooo Lovely People! We are excited to host this year’s Afro Week from Wednesday, April 10 -Saturday, April 13.
Afro Week is all about celebrating African cultures and having conversations about what it means to be African.
Some of the activities lined up are: movie screening, games, What Is Your Africa, SASA 15th Anniversary Celebration, photoshoot, and more.
Keep an eye out for more information about these activities coming soon! 😁
