The Swansboro Military Affairs Committee was proud to honor Lance Corporal Enrique Armando Steven Garcia-Chong as our 2026 service person of the quarter. NAC Chairwoman Linda Williams-Thornley presented the wooden plaque designed by Scuffed Knuckles, Sawdust and Lasers Colleen Stewart Francis Mark Francis . Preston's Corner Bar & Grill provided an excellent venue and atmosphere for our occasion!.

Garcia-Chong, 21, and native of Iowa, enlisted in the USMC Aug 28, 2023 and was joined by fellow colleagues and officers from the Motor T with 2d Reconnaissance Battalion, 2d Marine Division.

The plaque reads “For his exceptional performance as an Automotive Maintenance Technician with 2d Reconnaissance Battalion, 2d Marine Division, Lance Corporal Garcia-Chong has consistently demonstrated technical mastery, initiative, and dedication to mission success. He has performed Corrective and Preventative maintenance on over 78 Principal End Items, directly enabling a high level of material readiness and successful ex*****on of well over 1900 tactical vehicle missions. His dedication to increasing his professional development in completing over 175 hours of Professional Military Education, Technical Skills Training, and Material Readiness training is a testament to his outstanding professionalism. His actions set a high standard across the battalion and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Marine Corps.”

Your service matters and we appreciate you.

We salute the brave service & honor the longtime sacrifices of humble hero and Medal of Honor recipient, Capt Williams, USN, Ret. 🇺🇸

At 100 years old, retired U.S. Navy Captain E. Royce Williams received the Medal of Honor today.

During the Korean War, he faced seven enemy aircraft alone, shooting down four Soviet MiGs in one of the longest dogfights in U.S. Navy history.
His mission remained classified for decades.

Tonight, during the State of the Union address, President Trump presented him with our nation’s highest recognition for valor in combat.

His story will join those of more than 3,500 Medal of Honor Recipients preserved at the National Medal of Honor Museum —so future generations can better understand the character, service, and sacrifice the Medal of Honor represents.

We remember & honor all the brave who lost their lives 81 years ago during one of the bloodiest battles in the history of the Marine Corps. Today, the image of the flag-raising on Mt. Suribachi endures as a powerful symbol of American courage, unity & sacrifice...and of the relentless determination of those heroes who came before. 🇺🇸

U.S. Navy pilot Michael Scott Speicher was shot down over Iraq on January 17th, 1991...becoming the first American combat casualty of the Gulf War. 🇺🇸

Today marks the beginning of Operation Desert Storm (JAN 17, 1991- FEB 28,1991). Today we remember the generation of warriors who stepped forward in 1991...and we honor their sacrifice and legacy. 🇺🇸
