Dear Community members, Scouters, Friends, and Family,
I am David Barth and I am a Life Scout in Troop 446. I have been active in Scouting since second grade where I have climbed the ranks of Cub scouts and have now almost completed my journey of rank advancement in Boy scouts. In Boy Scouts, I have learned skills of leadership in jobs like Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, and Senior Patrol Leader. I have learned how to teach others and earn respect by being Troop Guide and Troop Instructor. Lastly, I have learned how to organize past and present information as Troop Historian and Troop Scribe. In Boy Scouts, there are seven ranks. They go from the beginner ranks of Scout, Tenderfoot, and Second Class, to the higher ranks of First Class, Star, Life, and the coveted rank of Eagle Scout.
To earn the rank of Eagle, I have to complete a service project. This project has to benefit the scout’s community and be funded, organized, and executed by the Scout. The service project that I chose to do is building an amphitheater at Hammocks Beach State Park’s campground. This project entails 3 rows of bench seating, a 5ft. fire ring, and an 8x8 stage. The park wants this amphitheater for several reasons. The first is to be able to conduct outdoor activities for campers. Some examples of activities are talks about different plants and animals, roasting marshmallows, and cooking hot dogs. With this amphitheater, they can do all these activities to a large group while being in nature and in one place. The second reason it is wanted is so that the park has a place to do small functions and ceremonies. A ceremony that would be perfect for this is Boy Scout Court of Honors as you can be in nature.
In order to bring this project to fruition, I have to raise $2,805. This sum includes building materials, tools, and other supplies. If you would like to make a monetary donation, the park and I would greatly appreciate it. There are two options for you to choose from if you wish to donate. Cash or checks made out to David Barth or Jessica Barth with the memo “David Barth’s Eagle Scout Project” can be mailed to David Barth, PO Box 178, Swansboro, NC, 28584-0178. You can also Venmo your donation to -Barth-72 with the memo “David Barth’s Eagle Scout Project.” After this sum is met, I will buy and gather the materials before the work days. Any remaining funds will be donated to Hammocks Beach State Park for the upkeep of the amphitheater.
My projected work days will be held in the first couple weekends in October. As we start getting closer to October, I will create and send out a sign-up for all those who would like to volunteer. These work days will be filled with lots of tasks but will be much appreciated by the park when we are finished.
