Waterway Women’s Connect Kicks Off

Connections are being made in Swansboro.

They came from Morehead City and Jacksonville; North Topsail Beach and New Bern to make friends, exchange ideas and share professional experiences at the Swansboro Area Chamber of Commerce’s inaugural Waterway Women’s Connect lunch.

More than 20 people attended a noon gathering at Preston’s Corner Bar & Restaurant in Historic Swansboro. Industries such as financial, home health care, veterinary care, personal care, commercial manufacturing and non profits were represented.

The formation of the WWC is the brainchild of the chamber’s Deputy Director Susan Cummings who was impressed by a similar program offered by the Topsail Beach Chamber of Commerce and Tourism. The staff from the TBCoC&T—Executive Director Tammy Proctor and Chamber Coordinator Kay Phelps--attended the luncheon.

Subsequent meetings will meet each month on the fourth Tuesday at Preston’s. The WWC is a benefit of chamber membership but is open to any woman involved in business. An RSVP is required no later than the Monday prior to the Tuesday meeting.

Meetings begin promptly at noon and are adjourned around 1 p.m. There is no charge to attend. Attendees order their lunch from Preston’s vast menu.

According to the National Retail Federation, families with children in elementary through high school last year planned to spend an average of $858.07 on clothing, shoes, school supplies and electronics. Crystal Coast Habitat for Humanity Newport ReStore will be having their Casino Night on Friday, August 14! Games, Entertainment, Food & Prizes!!

A lot of things have to come together to turn an ordinary Friday night into Casino Night.

The game tables don't appear by magic.

The food doesn't cook itself.

And despite what we're choosing to believe, magicians are not generated naturally by the atmosphere.

This year's Casino Night will feature game tables from Casino Party Aces, catering by Class Act Catering, and entertainment from mentalist and magician Scott Deming.

In other words, we're assembling a pretty solid team.

Add great raffle prizes, good company, and a room full of people supporting affordable homeownership on the Crystal Coast, and you've got the makings of a very good night.

August 14 will be here before we know it.
