Chamber Music Society of the Carolinas

Chamber Music Society of the Carolinas In a series of 13 concerts in July This year, SCMF will present over 15 events at 3 different venues during its five-week season.

Chamber Music Society of the Carolinas beloved chamber music festival that promotes shared experiences of joy, creativity and transcendence through world-class chamber music. Founded in 1970, The Swannanoa Chamber Music Festival - now the Chamber Music Society of the Carolinas - is the premier chamber music festival of The Carolinas. The Chamber Music Society of the Carolinas is unique amongst cla

ssical music festivals for its approach to performance – which values the audience experience, and favors close, intimate interaction between listener and performer. All performance venues, artists, and ensembles that take part in CMSC share this common value. The caliber of musicians and composers who take part in the Festival contribute greatly to the unique and outstanding quality of CMSC: Every summer, a group of world-class musicians travel from all corners of the globe to Asheville in order to perform, collaborate, and practice their craft as part of the Chamber Music Society of the Carolinas summer series. Frequently referred to by residents and visitors as a “mountain oasis”, Swannanoa is situated in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains and is a part the Asheville Metropolitan Area. The Chamber Music Society of the Carolinas is a program of Warren Wilson College, and is proud to call the College its home.

Meet the artists of Week 1, July 10-12, 2026

This week's lineup brings together six extraordinary musicians for The Great Experiment. Violinists Susie Park and J Freivogel: Susie made her solo debut at five, won the Yehudi Menuhin Competition at sixteen, and has since played Carnegie Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and the Vienna Musikverein. J is the founding first violinist of the Jasper String Quartet and serves as our Associate Artistic Director.

Violists Andrew Gonzalez and John T. Posadas: Andrew, praised by Strad for his "warm-hearted" tone, is a Jasper String Quartet member and one of the few musicians in the world who plays the violoncello da spalla. John brings an uncommonly wide résumé — Kennedy Center, Tanglewood, Santa Fe Opera, and the Utah Symphony — plus a founding role in the Baumer String Quartet.

Cellists Rachel Henderson Freivogel and Raman Ramakrishnan: Rachel co-founded the Jasper String Quartet and now serves as Co-Artistic Director of CMS Carolinas alongside her husband, J. Raman traded a physics degree at Harvard for Juilliard and has performed everywhere from Marlboro to Egypt with Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble.

Swipe through to get to know each of them, then come hear them live at CMS Carolinas.
