The 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season is here, and our community is no stranger to natural disasters and severe weather. Preparing now will not only keep you and your family safe, but it will also give you peace of mind.
Make a plan. When disaster strikes, local emergency services may be overwhelmed for several days. Planning ahead will help you and your family be more self-sufficient, safe, and comfortable. Know safe meeting areas, who to communicate with, and have a plan for pets and people with special needs.
Build a kit. Have food, water, and essentials to last at least 72 hours. Electricity, water, and other basic amenities may not be available, so having a standard emergency kit is vital. Find a checklist at buncombeready.org
