FORENSIC MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS
for children suspected of child abuse which include:
· Services in a safe, child-friendly setting
· A multidisciplinary team approach
· Pre- and post-conferences with parent/caregiver
· A complete head-to-toe physical exam by a trained forensic family nurse practitioner
· A child advocate for support before, during, and after exam
· A non-invasive colposcope used for magnification and documentation of findings
· Collection of physical and photographic evidence for law enforcement
· Use of state-of-the-art Telemedicine for consultations and peer review
· Prevention of unnecessary repeat examinations
· Referrals for counseling
· Expert witness testimony in court

Examinations are performed on request by law enforcement or DFCS and also may be requested by a physician or any other agency when child abuse is suspected.

This Memorial Day, The Sunshine House pauses to remember and honor the courageous men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their legacy of selflessness inspires the work we do every day to serve our community.

And that’s a wrap on our “Sock It to Child Abuse” challenge! 🧦💙

Our Candler County MDT members definitely understood the assignment and showed OUT with their crazy socks at their latest meeting after being challenged by Toombs County MDT! We’ve loved seeing our partner agencies come together throughout Child Abuse Prevention Month to raise awareness, spark conversations, and stand united for the children in our communities.

Thank you to every MDT that participated, every agency that joined in, and every person helping us fight for safer futures for children. Because when it comes to protecting kids… their fight is our fight. 💙
