Blessings in a Backpack of Forsyth County

Blessings in a Backpack of Forsyth County We are a non-profit organization that provides food to Forsyth county students who might otherwise go hungry on the weekends. Mr.

Lambert High School's Blessings in a Backpack is a student-run club. We are responsible for raising all of the money for purchasing the food; $100 feeds one child in the program for an entire 38-week school year. We work with social workers and guidance counselors to identify the children that will receive the backpacks. Each Friday morning, from 7:30 to 8:15 AM, Lambert High club members arrive t

o pack the backpacks. Once filled, parent volunteers deliver the backpacks to the designated schools throughout the county. The backpacks are distributed to the children for the weekend. This process is repeated each week for the entire school year. When our program started in early 2013, we provided food to 50 students in seven elementary schools across the county. Each year, we saw tremendous growth in the organization, in terms of our volunteer-base and in the number of children we provided for. As of now, we sponsor 388 students in 16 Forsyth County middle & elementary schools. Ultimately, our goal is to provide a backpack to every child in the county that needs one. Ed Gray is the Lambert High School faculty sponsor for the chapter.

Food insecurity may not be visible on the surface in Forsyth County, but there are hundreds of families close to us that may not know where their next meal is coming from. Blessings in a Backpack is a program led by Lambert High School students that feeds 390 Forsyth County Schools students every weekend. Please take a look to see how Lambert students are supporting their neighbors!

Many of us don’t know what it’s like to be hungry.... when you get a phone call from a teacher because her student is putting macaroni and cheese in his pocket from the cafeteria to take home to his hungry three-year-old sibling.

On this Giving Tuesday, please consider Blessings in a Backpack of Forsyth County! We are feeding 344 students in Forsyth County schools. We have to raise $34,000 this year, so we count on every donation! Right now our pantry is bare. We are weekly shopping to feed our 344 children. With Covid, fundraising is a challenge! We would greatly appreciate any donation. It cost $100 to feed one student on the weekends per school year.

TO DONATE: Please click on this link and put Cu***ng, GA #1305 as the program

Many of our BIB kids do not have the opportunity to go trick-or-treating. We would love either Halloween donations or goody bags made for our Blessing kids. Please reach out to us here and we will be in touch! Thank you so much! We love our Forsyth community!

Goody bags usually include candy, maybe a Halloween pencil or sticker, and a Halloween themed packaged snack (like rice krispy snack, fruit roll ups, pretzels, goldfish). We need to pick them up by Oct 28.
We are so thankful to the Moms Club of Cu***ng SE that has already provided 88 bags. We still need 256 more goody bags made.

At Blessings in a Backpack, we believe that every child should have the nourishment they need to learn and grow — regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or socioeconomic background. We strive to ensure children do not go hungry on the weekends by empowering individuals, partners, and communities to take action. Changing hearts, creating opportunities, strengthening families and communities, it starts here with us. And you. Today, and every day, we thank you for your support of our mission to feed kids who might otherwise go hungry.
