We are dedicated to providing opportunities for developing an intergenerational legacy between youth and adults, non-discriminate community engagement that promotes the positive impacts and quality of life for all residents of the Leelanau Area. We envision The Center and LIFT as a safe, well supervised center dedicated to providing all local residents with opportunities to experience activities t

hat broaden their knowledge, enhance their self-esteem, promote healthy relationships and strengthen their commitments to our communities. Guided by the leadership of a strong Board of Directors, The Center and LIFT programs focus on encouraging positive behavior choices among youth by channeling them into productive activities under the supervision of caring adults. Additionally, The Center serves senior citizens, families and other community organizations, and offers intergenerational activities to promote more cohesive communities. Our Partner, LIFT (Leelanau Investing For Teens) resides in the lower level and is an after school program on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, for teens in grades 7 through 12.

Announcing a new series at the Friendship Community Center. “In Good Company” is a different kind of concert pairing a musician with artist, writer, poet, or dancer. For our first in the series, we welcome Grammy-award winning musician Andrew Dost with painter, illustrator and muralist Em Randall. Both have experience in each others’ area of expertise. Both artists were born and raised in northern Michigan. Be there to experience a one-time-only collaborative experiment. In Good Company is only one of the events now being offered by the Friendship Community Center with the goal of providing entertainment and art that is affordable for the whole community. Occurring once a month throughout the off-season, the low cost ticket is made possible by community supporters. Join us for a night of music, art, and conversation with grammy award-winning musician Andrew Dost and painter, illustrator, and muralist Em Randall. Both have experience in each others’ area of expertise. Both artist were born and raised in northern Michigan.
This is the first in the series “In Good Company,” pairing local musicians and artists (be they visual artists, poet, dancer, or writer).

More about the artists:
Andrew Dost is a Grammy Award-winning songwriter, composer, and artist, as well as a northern Michigan native. A lifelong creator, he has performed in many bands, including Metal Bubble Trio, Fun., and Anathallo, and hosts "Christmas at the Old Art Building" in Leland every year. In addition to his work as an artist, Dost is heavily involved in working toward social justice, and is a co-founder of The Ally Coalition, which provides critical support for grassroots non-profit organizations dedicated to bettering the lives of LGBTQ+ youth

Em Randall is a painter, illustrator, and muralist from Northern Michigan. Her work revolves around distilling memory and feeling through portrayals of individual figures, animals, and tokens of collective symbolism

October 10th show will feature guitarist Nathan Salsburg and farmer/writer Nic Theisen.
