Did you know LCSS has a large loan closet for durable medical equipment (DME)?

We don't have any wheelchairs as of today, but we have 10 knee scooters and plenty of other DME.

If you have any DME to donate, please make sure they are clean and in working order.

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has extended the Air Quality Alert for all of Michigan through Monday due to elevated levels of fine particulate due to wildfire smoke. If possible, avoid strenuous outdoors activities, especially for those with heart disease and respiratory illnesses such as asthma. An important update.

We have been filtering through tons of comments asking about weekend plans. Unfortunately, our breaks from the smoky air this weekend look brief. Our update on our air quality over the next 60 hours as of 10 am EDT 7/16/26.

Through the rest of the day, nearly the entire state will bask under an AQI of 300 or higher. This is unhealthy for all individuals. As we move into Friday, smoke still lingers in the area, but a wind shift has shown up on latest model runs. This will blow most smoke off to the east into Ontario, but air quality will still not be completely clear. Places in the Upper Peninsula on Friday evening will likely still be above 150 for an AQI. Then on Saturday, another front moves in, bringing winds back in from out of the northwest, and storm chances. Within any storms on Saturday, dirty rain may occur. The cold front will likely also spike our AQI back above 200 for many, into the very unhealthy range by Saturday night. While we don't have smoke data yet for Sunday, we presume a similar outlook to Saturday will be in store to end the weekend, as winds remain largely out of the northwest.

If you have prolonged outdoor activities this weekend, please be safe about your respiratory health.

You probably already know this, but just in case...
•There are several active wildfires in Canada & Minnesota
•These fires are in remote areas and not easily accessible by firefighters to extinguish them
•The smoke from these fires has blanketed the state of Michigan
•Air quality is horrible throughout Michigan

PLEASE
•Stay indoors as much as possible
•Run HVAC & car AC units on recirculate (MERV-13 filters are recommended for home HVAC)
•DO NOT call 911 to report smoke or the smell of smoke. Dispatch centers are already overwhelmed by these calls. Don’t add to that extra load. - DO CALL 911 if you are certain you are seeing active fire/flames
