Sutton Historical Society to Host Presentation - FREE
“The Family Nurse-Early American Home Medical Care”.
Today - Thursday, April 23, at 1 pm - 2 pm
Sutton Senior Center - 19 Hough Road Sutton.
Join us this afternoon, as Christie Higginbottom shares her extensive knowledge about the role played by home-grown, wild-gathered, and purchased herbal remedies to treat common health problems in New England households between 1790 to 1840. Using advice from historic sources, Christie will describe plant varieties, their medical uses and preparation methods.
Christie writes and consults on historic gardens, antique plants, and herb use; lectures at museums, garden clubs, historical societies, and libraries; teaches home gardening classes, including for the Northeast Organic Farmers Association, New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill and at the Adult Education program at Bay Path Regional Vocational High School.
This free presentation is open to members and the general public of all ages. Join us as we learn how residents in the early years of our newly formed country treated ailments and maybe discover new plants to sow in your 2026 gardens.
